Did Justus Sheffield get demoted? I noticed he has 7 starts for the Mariners AA affiliate this year.

Yeah, about a month ago. He's pitching there now and has been, aside from his first start, dominant the same way he was dominant in Trenton last season.

The problem for the Mariners is the PCL is a war zone when it comes to developing young pitchers and Tacoma's home park (their AAA franchise) is murder. If it were me when the time came to promote him from Arkansas I bring him straight to Seattle and cut out the middle man. Surprises me that more of the teams with PCL franchises don't do this because the offensive environment is so distorted by park effects that it's got to have a terrible effect on these kids. You can have the best control and command and if you merely give up more than weak contact fly balls can go out and ground balls scoot through hardpan infields as if the fielders weren't there.

I understand there's some pressure to keep the affiliate owners happy in terms of running legit prospects through the team. But when it comes to your top prospects there's gotta be some common sense involved.

I feel the same way with the Yanks and Deivi Garcia, to be honest. It wouldn't have killed me if they kept him in Trenton and then perhaps brought him up from there in September. Same goes for Abreu and perhaps Nick Nelson.

I've had the chance to see Mella pitch a few times this year. Love the stuff. I wonder what it would take to get him from the Reds? A bit older and could throw more strikes but i really like him, love the arm.

Solak called up by Texas today and in the lineup for the first game of their double header.

EDIT: He singled off of Andrew Heaney in the 7th inning for his first MLB hit.

I really liked JK but he was just injured too much so I kinda understand why they gave up on him.

I am not worried about him. He is gonna be 26 years old next year. He has only pitched 97 innings total since he became a pro. He would be clogging up a space on the 40 man if he was on the Yankees. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets injured again next year. He looks like the type of guy whose arm can't handle a mlb workload.

Twins are using him in relief. And he doesn't have the stuff to be a high leverage arm....so you traded a middle inning reliever for some rotation help.

    Nothing wrong with that.

And by the way in terms of fWAR, Green has .3 as a SP and .9 as a RP for a total of 1.2. Littell has .4.

FIP is truly useless as a statistic as we know all batted balls aren't created equally.
