More to come but if it happens Cohen will be the richest owner in MLB and second in pro sports to Clippers owner. Per ESPN. Donít know if that is accurate. Just repeating ESPN.

Cohen net worth is around $13.6 Billion. Said Clippers owner is worth about $55 Billion thanks to how well Microsoft is doing under CEO satya nadella

So Cohen can definitely afford the Mets, and not's not like he's burning that money since a NYC MLB franchise is a valuable asset he can flip at any time. Doesn't seem like the decline of the popularity of baseball is hurting valuations much

Just as an aside, do the Mets go out of their way to have players who are from the tri-state area? Matz, Stroman, Porcello; T. Frazier was there recently. Kay who they traded to Toronto for Stroman is from Long Island.

Mets worked out some kind of restructuring of Cespedes salary based on a grievance the team filed about his injury last season. (I think there was a dispute how he actually hurt himself)

Joel Sherman - he’s losing some 2019 salary and over 19mil in 2020. New incentives that could rebuild some of what’s lost. But Sherman says 2020 salary base is 10mil. Surprising.

Based on how much his contract was reduced there is little question that Cepedes hurt himself in a very stupid manner.

Only way that would happen is if they fire Van Wagenen, which they should seriously consider but won't. Hot take: Buck goes to Astros.

Looks like Luis Rojas gets the job. Son of Felipe Alou. It's funny to find out after all these years that the Alou brothers should have been the Rojas brothers but somebody got the surnames mixed up and used the mother's maiden name by accident.

And yet Luis Rojas brother Moisťs went by Alou. Now I'm really confused. (I thought going by the maternal surname wasn't that uncommon in the Spanish tradition?)

NY Post reporting that sale of Mets is about to fall through:

    https://nypost.com/2020/02/04/billio...-life-support/

Steve Cohenís $2.6 billion bid to buy the Mets is on life support ó if alive at all.
Sources close to the situation are confirming that the billionaire hedge fund manager is ending negotiations with the Wilpons on his purchase of an 80 percent stake in the franchise. According to those sources, Cohen is deeply unhappy with the Wilpons changing the terms of the deal at a very late stage and has decided to walk away.

Same thing happened a few years ago. Wilpons were going to sell the team but than changed the terms. So the potential new owner walked away.

Probably tried to squeeze Cohen for more money. Cohen may just come back and pay up close to what they now want but now instead demand full control and none of this idiot son Jeff Wilpon running the team into the ground for another 5 years

I'm actually surprised Cohen didn't insist on something like that up front. If I'm putting up multiple billions I want Jeff and Fred Wilpon off the premises toute suite.

Is it possible for the Wilpons to be even more hated by the Mets fanbase after this? I think they may have managed to and that wasn't easily done. The Wilpons, the gift that keeps giving.
