Mets should go for a veteran guy to be their new manager. Why not go after Larry Rothschild.

Good one. I'm betting Rothschild makes twice as much as Callaway per year easily.

Over/under on number of stadiums that show him taking strike 3 in 2006 when the Mets roll into town?

I'd say zero. I think that's more of a New York preoccupation than anyplace else. I never got the impression that the Wainwright K defines his career for most of the country, although it certainly does for a lot of Mets fans.

^ Was the above story published somewhere on a website, and can I consult it?

EDIT: I found it, but I can't consult it, not without paying anyway: https://theathletic.com/1344420/2019...th-the-astros/

I'm sorry to see Beltran leave the Yankees. I too had the idea that he was a big behind-the-scenes help.

Mets better hope Beltran pulls an Alex Cora because not hiring Girardi or Shoewalter when they desperately needed experience to lead the team was a very risky move

Retreads aren't as popular in this decade. Besides Cora winning the WS in his first year in 2018, Dave Martinez won this year in 2019 in his second year as a manager. Hinch won in 2017 in his third year managing.

So the mayor of NYC is releasing 900 prisoners from Riker's island and rewarding them with Mets tickets.

That should be a fun promo night

Hensley Meulens hired as bench coach. He never lived up to the Bam Bam nickname as a player, but seems like he's been successful as a coach.

The way things are going in the Astros probe, he may be filling in for a while as Mets mgr.

Unrelated, how did I miss this nugget?

The Mets offseason has begun with the addition of an experienced reliever.

Former Yankees left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve has signed a minor-league deal with a spring training invite, MLB Network is reporting.

Mets writer suggests some trade ideas for Josh Hader.

    https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/potenti...with/312042456

Taking on Braun, selling low on Smith and Diaz seems kind of stupid, but I think thats a Mets move for sure.

I can't see them taking on Braun money unless they shed some Cespedes money.

The Wilpons are in negotiations to sell a majority interest (as much as 80%) to Steven Cohen, who already owns a small interest. Although he'd become the majority owner, they would continue running the team for 5 years. Could certainly change their attitude towards spending.
