I agree that the mets rotation isn't terrible but those numbers are heavily skewed by the division they play in.

Duaner Sanchez is out for the year with a separated pitching shoulder, FOXSports.com has learned.

Sanchez was apparently injured in a car accident. I am glad to hear that is his only injury and it is nothing serious. I feel for him and the Mets though.

Tough blow for the Mets. You'd have to think the Mets get a reliever now.

Sad to see Sanchez get hurt in an incident that had nothing to do with playing in a ballgame. You never want to see stuff like that happen.

I guess Hernandez will replace Sanchez... That's a really tough loss.

Xavier Nady is traded to Pittsburgh for Oliver Perez and Roberto Hernandez.

Oliver Perez has (or had) a big time arm, and a ton of potential, but I remember reading that his velocity is way down this year. I don't know if getting him makes the Mets better this year.

I think it might slightly improve the back end of their rotation. These last two years have been awful, he had a nice May though, maybe a change in scenery will be good...

Linebrink to the Mets for Perez and Bell as per Rotoworld. Great deal for the Mets.

Linebrink > Sanchez. Minaya doing a great job overcoming this injury

Linebrink isn't better than Sanchez. If anything, they're equals. However, it's a tremendous job by Minaya filling what would've been a huge whole...

I like Linebrink more, but filling that hole on the cheap given he had very little leverage is very impressive.

Wow... the Mets had a bad break and seemed to have fixed it quickly. Linebrink is a good setup man to replace Sanchez. Oliver Perez is still interesting as he was really really good and then flamed out for no reason. That's definitely an interesting pickup for SD. And I guess the Mets needed a backup infielder? Why the need for Bell with Wright?

I haven't seen the Linebrink trade anywhere else besides Rotoworld before it crashed? Did it happen?

It was up on rotoworld before, but now they're saying no deal. Sounded too good to be true for the Mets.

Perez with a good pitching coach could be one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's still young and his 2004 season was downright incredible.

He could be as good as Ben Sheets, again.

I really think Guidry might be able to have worked well with him. They are similar pitchers.

I've read this on yahoo! as well. Any news on this or was it a misprint?

    per yahoo player info:
Jul 31 ESPNews reports the New York Mets acquired RP Scott Linebrink from the San Diego Padres for SP Oliver Perez.

Deal fell through at the deadline.

Kevin Towers was on the radio last night here in San Diego and said he thought long and hard about this deal, but in the end stuck to his guns and refused to give up Linebrink.
