Re: The New York Mets Thread

Robbie's seemingly lazy play didn't bother me. I often felt that he made things look so effortless and smooth, even when he made a mistake, that it was him actually doing it. Just better than most. There were definitely times he dogged running out a hit, and that really bothered me. But his demeanor is usually a good thing because making a mistake and forgetting about it the very next play or at bat is so key. That's how Mo was so successful. He could get shelled one day and throw 9 pitches for 3 K's the next night against the heart of an order.

We get angry because we're fans. Many players also get angry and it sometimes is to their detriment.

Lastly, Robbie was so damn good I didn't want him tinkering. He was a beast for us most of the time. A beast that could play a very good 2B.

So after Cano gets benched for not running out some ground balls he then runs one out and pulls a quad. My question would be is it legit.

    Mets must be beside themselves.

Well at least Kickey Mallaway is no longer #1 in the "first manager fired" power rankings. That's got to be Dave Martinez in Washington now, no?

Re: The New York Mets Thread

Poor Metsies blew a 4-run lead in the 8th inning tonight at Arizona, only a handful of days after blowing a 5-run late lead in LA. Gary Cohen and the SNY studio guys were really ripping hard into Kickey Mallaway for his strategy tonight, including bringing the corpse of Jeurys Familia in to protect the lead in the 8th. When the house announcers are ripping you that's not a good sign, indicates maybe they've heard something from on high?

Just saying Kickey may be on the hot seat again.

Cano has a .650 OPS. Their five starting pitchers have a combined .609 OPS.

Edit: Cano may need to go back on the IL. Having a DH for 2 games could let the Mets find out if Cano is healthy enough to DH.

Assuming they are able to finish their suspended and regularly scheduled game tonight, the Mets will have five days from Monday through Friday when they finished two games twice, didn't finish any games three times, and never finished exactly one game.

I'm not sure the on-deck circle is the best place to interrupt a major leaguer with big life news, but this is pretty cute. Ramos' daughter's smile will be the high point for Citifield in 2019.

Re: The New York Mets Thread

For the second time in three games, the Mets threw a St. Louis baserunner out to end the top of the ninth. On Thursday, St. Louis hit a tying double that got the batter out at third. Last night, Kolten Wong hit a bloop double with Jack Flaherty on first. Flaherty got out at home to let the Mets win 8-7. Paul Goldschmidt, who is hitting well but not as well as he used to, could have batted next. Flaherty is a pitcher who was fifth in Rookie of the Year voting last year. It's the third time this year he pinch-ran. He pinch-ran for Yadier Molina. Flaherty was watching too much while running. An infielder cannot get an outfield assist regardless of where he threw from, but the Mets' Jeff McNeil was down the right field line and deep enough that it could be one of the longest throws by an infielder to throw a runner out at home all year.

    @AnthonyDiComo

The Mets have called a full-blown team meeting this afternoon -- not exactly standard operating procedure before a game. Appears to be a bigger roster shakeup than just Daniel Zamora, as well. The team has no reserves or bullpen arms listed on its clubhouse lineup card right now.

Phil Regan pitched to Ted Williams. Ted Williams batted against Ted Lyons. Ted Lyons pitched to Ty Cobb. So your new Mets pitching coach has a Bacon number of 3 with Ty Cobb.

Seriously, the Mets hired Phil Regan to be their pitching coach?

I'm also in the "I had no idea he was still even alive" camp.

Re: The New York Mets Thread

The Mets are on pace for 220 home runs, and the team record is 224 from 2017. The Mets are eighth in the NL and sixteenth in MLB in home runs. They could break their team record with an average amount this year because of how many home runs there are.

Edit: Jayson Stark wrote that Mets pitchers have 5 home runs, which is more than the 4 home runs by Detroit first baseman. Miguel Cabrera has 26 games at first, 38 games at DH, and 4 home runs combined.

In his fourth game for the Mets, Brooks Pounders got his first win since April 25, 2017. The Mets won 5-4 after Edwin Diaz pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.

Kickey Mallaway and Jason Vargas in dual confrontations with reporter after brutal loss today.

Confucius says: Managers/coaches who are successful can tell the media to go piss (Belichick). Losing managers/coaches who get in throwdowns with the media tend to get fired. Kickey better hope the Mets take care of the Phillies this week.

It's ok, you can only be fired if you do that with your shirt off. That's what Omar told me
