Yeah although the rumor I heard is, the Mets prefer Alex Cora but think he will go to Boston. That is if Boston doesn't hire Brad Ausmus, which I am praying praying praying they do.

" As had already been reported, the Tigers plucked Twins bench coach Joe Vavra to serve as a Quality Control coach ". What exactly does a " Quality Control " coach do ? Make sure the beer is ice cold after the game ?
What we can appreciate now is that the Yankees from 1996-2003 were even more extraordinary than we thought.

If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Actually, apparently "quality control coach" is a thing ... in American/Canadian football:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_control_coach

A quality control coach is a member of the coaching staff of an American football or Canadian football team whose primary job is preparing the team for a game, beginning sometimes two or three weeks before the actual game. Their primary duties include preparing for the game by analyzing game film for statistical analysis.

I didn't want Houston to win, but Beltran finally getting a ring at 40 and retiring is nice.

If Bartolo Colon doesn't play in 2018, there will be no more active players who played in Tiger Stadium.

    Great bit of trivia.

And as long as we're on Bartolo Colón trivia: B-R lists him at 5'11", 285, making him the heaviest player ever under 6' tall. Beats out Prince Fielder by 10 pounds.

2018 Competitive Balance Draft Pick Order

can someone explains how competive balance pick works? how come rays got six wth, then orioles only 1, Orioles was in last place this year.

Meanwhile, the Rays stand to have six of the top 72 selections if Alex Cobb signs a contract worth more $50MM or more and would otherwise have six of the top 80 if he signs elsewhere for less than $50MM (which would push the compensatory pick for his free agency back after Competitive Balance Round B)

This should make it clear as mud.

I don't know how they determine it exactly but it can go to the 10 lowest revenue teams and/or 10 smallest market teams.
