On August 16, Oakland's James Kaprelian made his MLB debut with 2 innings, and the only hit and run was a solo home run. The Yankees traded him and others for Sonny Gray.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread

Tampa Bay's team record for wins is 97. They're on pace to go 112-50 to break their record by 15 wins if they played 162 games this year. The 1906 Cubs at 116-36, 2001 Mariners at 116-46, and 1998 Yankees at 114-48 are the only teams to win at least 11 games. The Dodgers are at 30-10 (.750), which is a pace to go 121.5-40.5. If you round the wins and losses up, it makes 122-41, which is 163 games. 121 wins would break the record by 5. Jayson Stark wrote about the possibility of players having statistics averages much higher than in a full season such as if somebody bats .400. It turns out that individual statistics are not the only ones to think about because the Dodgers and/or Rays could have extremely high winning percentages.

Last year Miami and Pittsburgh were the only NL teams to have a run differential of -131 or worse. Milwaukee's -30 run differential is on pace for -131 in 162 games, and they're in playoff position! The Los Angeles Angels, who are 7.5 games out of playoff position, have a better run differential per game than Milwaukee. Last year the White Sox had a -124 run differential and finished 23.5 games behind second wild card Tampa Bay. The White Sox played 161 games. Even if eight AL teams made the playoffs last year, the White Sox would have missed by 5.5 games.

Mike Trout reached 300 home runs and 200 stolen bases faster than any man in history. He got there in 60 fewer games than Willie Mays.

So weird how the Altuve, Correa, Bregman, Gurriel and Reddick went from being such great hitters for several seasons straight to pure garbage.

Altuve: Three time batting champion and former MVP with a career 315 batting average is now the worst hitting second baseman, to the point where his offensive numbers could be confused for a pitcher's stats. (.222 BA, 67 OPS+)

Gurriel's OBP is now lower than his BA last year.
    2019: .298/.343/.541, 127 OPS+
    2020: .245/.286/.415, 88 OPS+

    Correa:
    2019: .279 .358 .568 138 OPS+
    2020: .261 .325 .375 90 OPS+

    Bregman:
    2019: .296 .423 .592 163 OPS+
    2020: .238 .349 .415 107 OPS+

    Redick:
    2019: .275 .319 .409 90 OPS+
    2020: .232 .305 .363 81 OPS+

Guess it's harder to hit if you don't know what the pitch is in advance.

I'm sure that's exactly what he was thinking after he squared up a Champan fastball for a dead HR to send his team to the WS. Ugh, that excuse was absolutely awful.

Clevinger left his start for SD today with an apparent injury. That could be a big blow to them.

Eppler had a lot of the same awfulness as Cashman. He couldn't build a pitching staff, failed to develop many prospects, and drafted horribly.

Moreno was smart enough to see where the issue was and remedy. I wish we had an owner who took a more active role.
