I've hated Kapler since they day he roid-raged and pounded Tanyon Stutze who was pinned down on the ground and was nothing more than an bystander trying to breakup the ARod/Varitek fight. I wish him the worst.

I don't even understand why the current Marlins organization has any liability for this at all. Loria had a deal that called for him to pay some portion of his profits to the city. He's claiming that, based on the language in their contract, there are no "profits" subject to that deal. Maybe he can win that argument, maybe he can't. But what does that have to do with the current Marlins organization and ownership group? I realize that the city and county included the current owners in the lawsuit over what they claim Loria owes them, but I'd think ultimately the new owners should be able to get themselves dismissed from this, regardless of whether anyone buys their Caribbean argument.

IANAL, because it could affect the actual value of the team at the point of sale. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that Jeffrey Loria was acting as the owner of the Miami Marlins, and whatever shady tactics he engaged he was doing so atop an MLB franchise. Dade County is seeking discovery of their financial records, and unless I missed my guess, the transfer of ownership includes all financial arrangements, debts, etc. Again, IANAL, but I'd imagine MLB is anxious for this to all go away, lest they get dragged into it too.

In NCAA Baseball, Elon's Kyle Brnovich has a no hitter with 11 strikeouts through 6 innings. Elon is hosting Hofstra, and Hofstra is up 1-0 without a hit.

Bruce Sherman is literally a venture capitalist---that means he makes money by buying assets, inflating their value by cutting costs (eg. labor costs), and then selling at peak market value. This is a disaster in the making.

You are confused. A Venture capitalist is an investor who specializes in start-up or small companies and hopes to recoup his investment through a public offering or acquisition after a period of initial growth. The tactics you describe are associated with the classic Carl Icahn-type corporate raider or leveraged buy-out structurer. Sherman's history is not really so defined. He made his money over many years in the boring field of wealth management, largely for boring clients like universities and government agencies. His investments were mainly passive, with a few big wins like Qualcomm. He eventually sold the business to Legg Mason for $1.4 billion and then had a nice nest egg which he proceeded to piss away a good piece of by investing heavily in regional newspapers. The Marlins are his encore initiative.

So, your conclusion may be correct, but not the rest.

I think it was tongue in cheek response to hitting a ball out of the park while holding just the handle in your hand.

Graig Nettles broke his bat once and a bunch of "superballs" bounced out of it.

Al Leiter said he struggled in the first inning, so I checked his career splits. His 3.43 ERA in the first inning is his second best. His 3.27 ERA in the second inning is his best. His WHIP was also the best in the second inning and second best in the first inning. He had his second best K/BB and best opponents' OPS in the first inning. I'm excluding him allowing 1 earned run in 21 2/3 innings in the ninth inning and 1 out in extra innings for a small sample size.

I don't know if there is video of Nettles, but Sammy Sosa did that also.

Mookie Betts does not compare to Mike Trout. Bryce Harper does not compare to Mike Trout. And certainly no prospect (Acuna, Guerrero, whoever) compares to Mike Trout. It's not close people. Seriously. Just stop.

Just amazing to watch this team waste quality starts. Not hitting, not moving runners, not doing anything offensively. I was chafed that Joseph wasn't bunting after the Beckham walk, then I remembered Vielma was on deck.

Does Davis' contract allow him to be sent to the minors?

TWo hits through 7 against this terrible team? Wow. Bottom 5 guys all under .200, well under .200? Unreal? Another wasted good start? Fact. The insurmountable one run deficit rears its ugly head again

Ohtani was perhaps well on his way to developing a blister during pregame warmups. The Sox dodged a bullet in that game, and then Skaggs had his inevitable regression the following game.

I’m wondering if Felix Hernandez has that second act in him to catapult him into ‘lock’ status for the Hall of Fame.
