The Red Sox have signed second baseman Esteban Quiroz to a minor league deal, as per a tweet from Team Mexicoís official Twitter feed. (WEEI.comís Rob Bradford was among those to report that the contract contains an invitation to Bostonís big league Spring Training camp.) Quiroz, who turns 26 in February, has a career .293/.402/.451 slash line and 38 homers over 1573 career plate appearances in the Mexican League, plus he also represented Mexico in the most recent World Baseball Classic.

Shame on Jeter if he is in any way responsible for this and aware of the circumstances.

Derek Jeter-led Marlins parted ways with scout while he was in hospital after undergoing cancer surgery

The Miami Marlins let go of a longtime scout in need of a kidney transplant as he lay in the hospital days after undergoing colon cancer surgery, the latest in a series of questionable decisions made by the organization under the stewardship of newly installed CEO Derek Jeter.

Read this as well amd considering I am two years from a kidney transplant, one I can relate to. The explanation was that he didn’t actually do it but as CEO he owns it. If he wasn’t aware, he is now.

He may have gotten off the performance enhancers, but he's clearly on something else if he thinks he can play in the majors at age 53.
    Let the kids play.

Cole Hamels and his wife, who are very active in charitable causes, have donated their $10 million Missouri property, which includes a 32,000 sq ft house, 100 acres of land, a playground, horse stable, and lakefront with docks, to a camp for special needs kids. Pretty cool.

Well done, Hamels family. I wonder, do they have a special needs child?

They did a segment on MLBN today about Edgar Martinez and the 2018 HOF possibilities. I think they said they had tracker showing him #3 in votes now. He still under the 75% but rising.

Heís been snubbed long enough and itís a travesty heís not in. The dude was an absolute monster at the plate. Th DH has been around long enough and in my opinion folks need to get over that hang up. Itís not going away. And only Ortiz has shown the same level of production from that spot. The man was feared throughout the game and was one of the toughest outs in the league.

Let the guy in you fools. This is what this place is for. Not for your petty little hang ups and personal opinions. Itís for the best in the game. Edgar was that when he played. Nobody during his era matched him. He was so far beyond his peers. Get over it or you donít deserve your vote.

If Ortiz is getting in when he is eligible then I cannot see how Edgar does not get in first.

I agree with this. Edgar was a beast and should be in. If Ortiz gets in before him I will lose what tiny bit of faith I have in the HOF.

I feel like the game keeps on changing but the writers are too slow with keeping up. Being a purist is fine and all for yourself and how you enjoy the game. But when someone is elite at their craft you honor it. This is my biggest peeve of giving the power of induction to those that they do. Either fix the people who handle it or get new ones. Get the job done correctly.

I think Edgar Martinez is a HOFer but if I could only vote 10, Iím not sure heís a lock to my ballot unless I do the strategic voting.

    Player A: 147 OPS+, 147 wRC+, 68.3 bWAR, 65.5 fWAR
    Player B: 141 OPS+, 140 wRC+, 72.6 bWAR, 68.7 fWAR
    Player C: 122 OPS+, 122 wRC+, 70.0 bWAR, 70.1 fWAR

I don't get the you can't vote a dh into the Hall of Fame thinking. If you believe that are you then not going to vote for an AL pitcher because they don't bat or even the most specialized of all baseball specialists - the 1 inning closer?
