If this is the case, then sounds like it was pretty much consensual and that the goal of prosecuting all these guys is a result of the typically homophobic Dominican prosecutors/courts/law, which is sad.

RIP Ralph Branca, on the wrong side of one of baseball's most iconic moments (and, I just learned, very briefly a Yankee).

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the league that wins baseball’s All-Star Game no longer will get home-field advantage in the World Series.

Instead, that will be determined by which pennant winner had the better regular season record.

The All-Star Game ... now it means nothing!

I was never a fan of the All-Star game determining the home field advantage in the World Series but awarding it to the pennant winning team with the best record is almost as bad. First, since the AL winner and NL winner play vastly different schedules, there is nothing to say that whichever club has the best record is really more deserving. Second, and worse, the World Series schedule won't be known until the last out of the final game of the respective LCS series. That's going to be a nightmare for fans planning to travel to see the World Series never mind the clubs selling tickets. Why don't the people making these decisions ever think them through?

College football fans often have less time than this to plan to attend a bowl game.

I kinda like the new format. I, too, wasn't a big fan of using the All Star Game as the determinant of Home Field Advantage, but swapping it back and forth based on whether it was an even or odd-numbered year didn't work for me, either.

The difference with this system is what the leaders do after they clinch their divisions. Do they keep playing their starters, to try to assure HFA if they get to the Series? Or, do they rest their starters, and risk the final game being on the other field in the Series? Suddenly, those late September games might be more important.

There should be no pretense that the All-Star Game is anything but a meaningless exhibition game, three (or four) days without real baseball right as the season is getting interesting.

As for the WS, just go back to alternating AL and NL. All these other schemes are just overthinking, and produce as many inequities as they solve. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

They should award WS home field to best Pythagorean record.

I've always felt this was the best answer. I'd be thrilled for it to be finally implemented.

Or to the team with the most players who can spell "Pythagorean."

Unfortunately, since most teams would probably have 2-3, max, there would be a lot of ties.

That would be hilarious. Hearing writers/broadcasters try to explain it would be great.
