Maddux totally would have gotten that call. Sotomayor would have been squeezed.

With the Royals being eliminated from the race, it'll be the 16th straight year of no repeat champions. In that time-

Aaron Sanchez has a chance to become the third pitcher ever to win an ERA title, pitch at least 150 innings (now having 1 inning per team game to qualify guarantees that you will have at least 162 innings, but in the 1800s there were teams that played much fewer games), and have 2 losses or fewer. Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson did that in 1995.

Finally a plan to put the Astrodome to use.

Harris County commissioners accepted a new plan Tuesday morning to save the Eighth Wonder of the World.

The proposal would raise the Astrodome's floor to create an underground two-level parking garage. The massive garage would hold up to 1,400 spaces.

I hope that when the dust settles that Toronto is out of the playoffs and Detroit is in.

    That's still possible right?

Yes, that is possible. Here are the Tigers' playoff possibilities:

    http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/p...d-still-happen
    • Tigers win Sunday, and Blue Jays or Orioles lose ... Tigers must make up rained-out game against Indians on Monday. Tigers would have to win that game to force a tiebreaker.
    • Tigers win Sunday and lose Monday ... Tigers eliminated.
    • Tigers win Sunday and Monday, Blue Jays win, Orioles lose ... Tigers play one-game tiebreaker in Baltimore with the winner facing the Blue Jays in Toronto.

I'm rooting for a one game tie breaker to establish the team playing in the one game wild card game. That would be fun considering I don't have a dog in this fight.

What would be interesting is if the Tigers and Indians have to make up their rained out game tomorrow. It could be meaningful for the Indians w/respect to home field vs. Boston. Boston holds the tie-breaker but if both of those teams win or both lose today, Cleveland gets the home field on the basis of one fewer loss. But, if Detroit wins and either Baltimore or Toronto loses so that the rained out Tigers - Indians game must be made up tomorrow, then the game becomes meaningful for Cleveland in that they will have to win to keep the home field vs. Boston.

Well, both Wild Card teams finished with equal records as one another in both leagues, so we can forget about the farcical Wild Card game this year and pretend it's a couple of game 163s, just as God intended.
