By the way, did anyone notice how ESPN's afternoon scroll on Tuesday COMPLETELY missed the point? it said Schilling was suspended for "equating Muslim extremists with Nazis." uh no you ESPN morons. He used unattributed unsupported math to suggest most Muslims support the worst of those who call themselves Muslims. Is this really hard ESPN?

I have no problem comparing ISIS to Nazis. But that's not what Schilling did.

Baseball superstar Barry Bonds has lost his collusion case against Major League Baseball.

Baseball arbitrator Frederic Horowitz has ruled in favor of MLB in the case in which Bonds claimed he couldn't get a playing job following the 2007 season due to a concerted effort by MLB to keep him out of the game, CBSSports.com has learned.

Bonds' career ended at the time, when no job was forthcoming.

The ruling, made within the last few days, came in the form of an opinion written by Horowitz, who heard Bonds' case back in May.

Unless he had a smoking gun that was going to be difficult for Bonds to prove.

i believe bonds no longer wants to take his fight to the public spotlight anyway. when this stuff dies down hopefully he can be a coach somewhere.

To the surprise of no one. Just a bad GM really, in the light of his predecessor Bavasi, Baird, Wren, etc.

On a semi-related note, Cafardo is reporting that Red Sox director of pro scouting Jared Porter is leaving for the Cubs.

Edwin Encarnacion tied Toronto's team record with 9 RBI. Roy Howell had 9 RBI on September 10, 1977. It was the 35th time since 1914 a player had at least 9 RBI.

Edit: He hit three home runs and became the 16th player since 1914 to have at least 3 home runs and at least 9 RBI.

Mark Shapiro, the Indians' team president, will be named Toronto Blue Jays president, sources close to that team said.

The announcement is expected to come as early as this week, perhaps Monday.

Shapiro will replace Paul Beeston, the longtime Jays president who is retiring. Beeston is expected to remain through the year in Toronto, and Shapiro may not start in Toronto until next season, though the exact starting date isn't known.

Shapiro couldn't be reached for comment Sunday night.

Shapiro, who served as GM, farm director and assistant farm director in Cleveland before becoming the team's president this decade, intends to keep Alex Anthopoulos as general manager, according to sources. That should come as no surprise, as the Blue Jays stand in first place in the tough AL East following a historic trade deadline of mega trades, notably the acquisitions of superstars Troy Tulowitzki and David Price.

Anthopoulos' contract expires after this season, and he would likely be coveted as an executive free agent if he were to become free, but he is believed to prefer to remain in Toronto if he can.

Don't worry, Schmuck Bowalter is gearing up for his next interview where he blames payroll and "competitive imbalance" for Orioles failures. Arrieta makes $3.6M this year. Maybe you guys shouldn't have traded him for Scott Feldman, Bucky, waddya think?

Major League Baseball has issued a decision on the reinstatement of Shoeless Joe Jackson, according to Arlene Marcley, curator of the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum downtown.

Marcley said she has received a decision from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. The announcement will be revealed Tuesday morning on the museum's official Facebook page.

Manfred took office on Jan. 25. A new commissioner incited new energy in Jackson supporters. The following month, Marcley organized an online petition to encourage Manfred to reconsider Jackson. The petition was followed by five letters requesting Jackson's reinstatement.

Well, here's something you don't hear everyday. (I'm not making light of this either; it can certainly be serious in adults.)
    http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb...e33222444.html
As he pondered how to handle a health crisis facing his baseball team, Ned Yost reached out this past weekend to his mother. Several Royals also contacted their families, all asking some version of a question they had not pondered since childhood: Mom, did I ever have the chickenpox?

The answer became imperative, at the behest of the Royals training staff, as the team dealt with an outbreak as they completed a weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Royals outfielder Alex Rios and All-Star reliever Kelvin Herrera have both been infected with the virus and could miss at least two weeks of action, team officials told The Star.

Rios and Herrera each left the team over the weekend and flew to Kansas City before the series ended. An examination on Monday of both players confirmed the diagnosis, a team official said.

Team officials are expected to address the situation before Tuesday’s game against the Tigers. The Royals believe the infections are limited to only Herrera and Rios. The most at-risk players are those from countries in Latin America, where the chances of childhood inoculation are lower, experts say.

Tonight at Toronto, Cleveland teammates Trevor Bauer, Jeff Manship, Kyle Crockett, Austin Adams, Zach McAllister, Gavin Floyd, and Shawn Armstrong became the 137th group of seven or more teammates since 1914 to each pitch 1 2/3 or fewer innings in a game of 9 or fewer innings.

Second baseman Jason Kipnis caught a fly ball, which is extremely rare for an infielder. Because Josh Donaldson scored, it was a sacfrice fly, whereas if it happened with the bases empty (or any situation in which a runner didn't score on it), it would have been scored a pop up.
