Already had a 137 wRC+ and .370 wOBA heading into the game, too. Looks like he's pretty well poised for his breakout year now at 22.

it would at least be a discussion though. his status as the young homegrown star prob made them unlikely to trade him away.

He would have had to be caught on camera burning down that CVS for them to start thinking about trading him.

You make it sound like he plays in a small market that has no chance of keeping him long term.

I've convinced myself Harper will be a Yankee. Big ego, big Yankee fan, and Yanks need the draw. It's gonna happen.

The ordinance, which will take effect Jan. 1, prohibits the use of smokeless tobacco at athletic venues, specifically singling out baseball, which has a long history of players masticating and spitting tobacco juice in view of children who worship them.
City officials say the ban on smokeless tobacco would be enforced the same way as regular smoking: by posting signs and removing violators from premises.

Interesting article on the Statcast technology being used on the MLB network.

The radar and cameras donít just measure the speed of pitches and batted balls, but their spin rates and launch angles. Run through software in the production truck and in MLB Advanced Medias offices in lower Manhattan, they track defensive playersí reaction times, the efficiency of their routes to balls, and the strength of their arms. And they know runnersí top speeds on the basepaths, the size of their leads and the quickness of their first steps.
Stats derived from reasonably accessible data like route efficiency, reaction time and top speed look likely to eventually replace the notoriously finicky defensive metrics that are currently en vogue.

Walk-off for Harper. 6 HRs in 3 games.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread

Bryce Harper with a walk off HR today. Now has 6 HRs in 3 games. Wow.

You know, I'm watching the Reds and White Sox game and am pissed. The Reds scored 7 runs in the top of the 9th inning to make it a 10-1 game. It was a 30 minute top half of the inning. Brian Price, Reds managers, decides to send Cueto back out in the bottom of the 9th to try and get the complete game.

    Heres my problem:

#1 He's at 108 pitches before the inning even started
    #2 He had a 30 minute layover
#3 THE REDS ARE UP 8 RUNS!!

As I type this Cueto is still in the game and has given up a solo HR to Abreu and another double to the next guy. AND PRICE STILL HAS HIM IN THERE AT 125 PITCHES. WTF

Talk about trying to kill your ace 5 weeks into the season. J.O.K.E.

Not that I agree with his move, but you missed a point - this is game one of double header.

Cueto is also gone either by July or the offseason.

An Ace pitcher can handle 125 pitches. Maybe Price is an old school manager who doesn't believe in babying his pitchers like other manager.

Burning through 1 guy for 1 inning is really going to set them back? 8 innings was already a blessing.

I'm for it if it's later in the season and there wasn't such a long layoff, but given The circumstances it made no sense. Point proven when he started the inning and rapidly gave up 3 runs. There was no point, reason, or motive to bringing him out. Dumb.

Girardi will send out CC into the 8th even after he has given up 4-5 runs in 7 innings. He must lead the MLB in complete game losses.

Tampa just got kicked in the nuts. That was set to be a pretty dope rotation by mid-summer.

    Good news for the Yanks.
