    R.I.P. Tommy Lasorda

Dodgers have just announced his passing.
One of the game’s great characters.

Go check out his rants against Kurt Bevacqua and Dave Kingman on YouTube - absolutely priceless

Whether you like the Dodgers or not, Tommy was a great ambassador of the game of baseball. RIP

I grew up as a Dodgers fan, and my childhood was filled with Tommy, Vin, Fernando, and Orel. A true character, and good guy overall. My favorite Tommy moment was when I was in SF watching a non-dodgers game, and for some reason, Tommy was there as a part of the pre-game announcements. The crowd boo’ed him. He just smiled, and waved to them as he walked away.

Just realized he was the last living manager of any WS team in the 70s. I feel old.

Bevacqua has got to be one of favorite rants by any coach/manager. Accentuates his name to where it almost becomes an insult in itself. Goes after his stats. That one wasn’t entirely for show, there was vitriol.

And Tommy Lasorda was also an Olympic Gold Medal winning manager with the United States in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney.

Another Tommy Lasorda gem after the Dodgers beat the Mets in the 1988 NLCS

Classic line in that rant: "he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat".

All the funnier if you know "Bevacqua" is Italian for "Drink water."

I remember back in the 70s when I was a single-digit kid, living in Glastonbury CT, my neighbor explained to me that Reggie just decided to take a throw to first off his butt.

That explanation I heard 42 years ago still holds up.

First major death of 2021. After so much tragedy in 2020. May Tommy RIP. God bless him and his family. Seventy years of marriage to the same woman. Very rare!
