IMO MLB needs to re-set the luxury tax for all teams this year in order to stimulate spending
I've been saying for years that MLB needs a spending floor to deter tanking and force teams to reinvest in talent instead of pocketing the money.

lol then we've both been on the same soapbox!

But I think this season especially warrants taking this kind of broad-stroke "stimulus plan" - gotta get this MLB market moving, as well as all sports & entertainment industries.

thanks ??? If this was his showcase - FB (sinker, four seamer) at 88-90 where the cutter is ??? Nope, I'll definitely take my chances with Sevy coming back and signing another SP at 10-15M.

edit. I thought he was 100% and he still is in recovery. this is a gamble the speed increases to 94 mph. of the 25 teams I wonder if Texas was there?

From a business and a social standpoint I would think they definitely need to stimulate spending.

They are trying to sell their product.

What are you talking about. They already are selling their sport. You don’t need to throw 4 pitches to attain an intentional walk any longer.

Increasing the cap won’t increase the talent.

Maybe they could create a signing period of some sort.

Doesn't even need to be a hard floor. Just teams that spend less than 50% of the cap where lux tax payments begin are ineligible to receive revenue sharing payments, or something like that. So if a team what to have a $60M payroll, fine but the other teams won't subsidice them.

Marcell Ozuna is drawing interest from multiple teams: Mets, Braves, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Giants, Nationals, Yankees and Dodgers appear to have varying levels of interest, per @mikedeportes.

This vague notion seems to be a tip off that this post has no credibility

They better start stimulating something, anything, now before Manfred turns the sport into a platypus!

First order of business is to impeach Manfred!

Anybody have recent news on the upcoming January 15 IFA Period? I can see that being the next big thing for the Yankees, and then they focus on signing/trading guys AFTER Friday.

I know, he can be very good, but if I were a GM I wouldn't give any promises (to what sounds like a demand) that he'll have the schedule he prefers.

By the way, and as someone else has noted, a 4-day schedule was certainly what I grew up in the 1950s assuming was something like a law of baseball nature. There were lots of HoF pitchers who worked that schedule. Still, when it's in place for one guy, it's sort of awkward, no?

YS2 was of course different than YS1. Biggest crowd I attended at YS1 was about 62,000. But there was quite a lot of history made at YS2. 10 pennants and 6 Worlds Championships. A crime that it was torn down so we can now watch games in possibly the worst of the post 2000 ball parks.
