    2020 DJ LeMahieu Performance Thread

Not fair that "The Machine" doesn't have his own performance thread - so here it is.

The odds are waaaay against it, but wouldn't it be exciting if he could go into September over .400?

I'm still torn as to whether the Yanks should commit mega-dollars towards signing him after the season. Anything more than three years might be a deal-breaker for me. Does 3yrs/$72M sound enticing enough? My guess is some club will gladly offer more years. And would that money be better spent on other wants/needs (i.e Lindor)?

Is leading off the right spot for DJ? The man is a terror when hitting with runners on base and with RISP, and doesn't whiff like many other middle-of-the-order hitters, and the Yanks have several other options for the #1 spot in the order.

They could lead Tauchman off and bat DJ third but I think whoever is on base the most should bat in front of Judge when he’s playing.

I would go 4 years for DJ. Don't think he will age badly. Guy just keeps hitting and is a plus fielder.

Agree, even if he does age poorly there's literally no sign of it now.

So if the Yankees offer 4 years, do you think another team offers 5, and then do you walk away from the negotiations?

I guess a better strategy might be to offer 3 yrs @ a higher AAV?

Two years and maybe an option.

He only gets 3 or less if COVID tanks the market for everyone. I think Donaldson's deal (4yr 92M) is a good template of what he'd make in a normal year. Donaldson was older too.

I'd take him at 4 years now and try to keep the average down as much as possible. 5 years is not out of play in the open market if owners aren't as tight wadded as we might expect given COVID.

Two weeks is a long time in a 60-game season. It gets late early this year.

Regular season means almost nothing this year. All the yankees care about is being as healthy as possible in October.

Yeah but 2 weeks is going to feel like 2 months if weíre watching Tyler Wade play 2B every night.

I'm hoping that we'll get an update today re: his MRI. An early September return would probably be a best-case scenario.

And if he can hit .400 in September, well, Ted Williams will surely be campaigning for an asterisk next to DJ's 2020 "season"
