Can only go up, hopefully. Really hard to see any logic in the game 2 strategy considering this, although there was never real logic in it anyway. All we can hope for now is for things to work out in spite of the lack of strategy. Life as a Yankees’ fan under Boone and Cash.

It is all coming down to Monty to save the Yankees’ post-season. Can he solve the Rays’ stable of left side hitters? If the team lives to play one more game, the Yankees surely need a Saturday rainout in San Diego to give Cole an extra day to rest his right arm.

    May I be honest here?

Let's pray he gets through the first inning before we worry about the second one.
It's going to be SO difficult for him, knowing if he makes a small mistake, he'll be out of the game.

I’d be happy he goes 4 solid and batter to batter from there.
Imagine Deivi García is first arm out of the pen today and probably good for 60 pitches.

Got the 4 solid, wasn’t expecting 6 good outs from Green tonight but that was big.

I wonder if he will be a number three starter on the Yankees next year?🤔🤔

The way the rotation is right now Monty could be the #2 starter next season. Unless Cashman does something.

    Right now, it's:
    • Cole
    • German?
    • Montgomery
    • Garcia
    • ?

with a questionable Severino after the ASG.

With this being an absolute fact it is inconceivable to me that the organization won't be acquiring two TOR starters over the next couple of months.

I believe neither Montgomery or German should be thought of as anything more than #4 starters on a championship team.

Severino and Garcia are nothing more than question marks.

German is a question mark untill we actually see him pitch again. Why Montgomery might be #2 right now. But hopefully not when the season starts.

$250M payroll and the rotation is a #1 pitcher, 3x #5 pitchers and a bullpen game every 5 games while. Embarrassing.

It could be worse, Sanchez could be a converted pitcher to save on payroll.

I doubt based off of what we’ve seen out of a Monty & German’s last ‘full’ seasons they’d be #5 pitchers. I wouldn’t want to be Cashman because at one point 1 of those guys was our ace and the other a solid #3 with room for improvement.

I'm certain these pieces won't fall in place until the Winter Meetings, and hopefully it won't be embarrassing.

Since Jordan hasn't pitched many innings since 2017, I guess the Yanks will be conservatively planning on maybe 120-150 IP in 2021. That's only about 20-25 starts, and ideally slotted in the backend of the rotation.

So not only is quality needed in the starting rotation, but even depth in the #4/#5 spots.

Monty will be 28 before starting the season - I don’t see innings being that limited. And, with this move to pull the SP when the lineup turns over for their third AB, 150 IP is the new 200 IP.

Age isn't the only reason to limit a starter's workload (in terms of IP). I was thinking more about the fact that he isn't going to be the type of guy we want starting more than about 20-25 times, so his stamina can be allowed to be built up and he'll still be strong and healthy in October.

And I agree, since 150 IP is the new 200 IP as you stated, Montgomery probably should be prepared for about 120 IP, don't you think? 15-18 outs every start would be the expectation. That leaves 9-12 outs for the bullpen to get whenever Jordan takes the mound. That could sometimes be 4 relievers.

The starters ahead of Montgomery will need to be counted on to need less relievers in their starts. The rotation need a couple of 7-inning guys. Cole is one. Need another one. Tanaka isn't the other, but he's still needed to be the guy ahead of Jordan.

I'm still zeroing in on trading for German Marquez or signing a proven innings-eater in addition to re-signing Masahiro.
