Brian Cashman said the offer Gerrit Cole accepted was the second offer the Yankees made. The first one was for eight years, Cashman said. "It was our best offer that was coming... there wasn't going to be any more negotiations after that."

So this refutes the rumor of the 7/245 offer that was called “cheap”.

Gerrit Cole thanked Marvin Miller for his contributions to baseball, along with Curt Flood. Cole is a big players' association guy, joining a few other vocal players in that clubhouse.

It’s a known fact that Hal was the one who offered the 9th year over the phone himself. He went over cashman’s head and made the second offer.

Well, I wouldn’t say he went over Cashman’s head. He just slid Cashman aside, and showed ownership was committed and they didn’t want to play the “let me go talk to my boss” or “let me go talk to my agent/player” game.

He basically cut out the middlemen.

Cole's first interview. Really insightful dude. It would be awesome if this mega contract worked out with a mega performer. Says he gave Voit a gift for #45, but left it up to Luke to reveal it if he wants.

No, it’s not. In the hierarchy of the organization, Cash works for Hal. Hal can’t go over Cashman’s head. Cole and Boras could go straight to Hal - that would be going over Cash’s head.

Pretty common place for all deals this size to have the owner involved and making the final call. And yes kind of impossible to go over a subordinate’s head lol

Either way it was Hal that got it done in the end not cashman. It was Hal that offered the 9th year

Why that's, that's... that's 0.018% of his contract. I hope Cole can absorb that type of payment. Should we be worried?

Come on man, at that kind of money it's always going to be the owner to close the deal because he has to authorized a 324M expenditure because it's his money.

But with his general manager there , why would Hal have felt the need to make the call himself ? He could have just told cashman to offer him whatever it took to get him .

Gerrit Cole said it’s the real sign. Said he had it on his wall a few years, and then he took it down and put it into storage. #Yankees

I would imagine the entire media was asked specifically to refrain from that until the investigation completes.
