Re: 2020 Draft news and notes...

If the Draft is only 5 rounds, that would be 150 or so selections depending on how they do comp selection. I would guess any HS player not selected in those rounds will pass on the FA bonus and go the college route.. Here are some interesting college power arms BA has listed after top prospect 150....
Will Klien RHP
Trey Dillard LHP
Cullen Kafka RHP
Thomas Farr RHP
Kyle Hurt RHP
Shane Drohan LHP
Noah Skirrow RHP
Cody Greenhill RHP
Stevie Emanuels RHP
Boyd VanderKooi RHP
Will Fleming RHP
Austin Vernon RHP
Brant Hunter LHP

I hope we can land a few of these guys!!

Hoping that the Yankees extensive investments in scouting and analytics can, combined with the appeal of the Yankee brand, get access to more players than they would in a normal draft situation with no 2nd and 5th round picks.

A lot of the best high school players not drafted will probably end up in college. If they're not drafted, a lot of non-senior college players will end up going back to college. Non-drafted player bonuses being tapped at 20K doesn't give them much of an option if they can't go to college.

With the Draft looking like a go now in June here is my wish list for our first 5 picks...Not sure if we still, with this new format even have 5 picks?( All picks should be available in and around our slots....

1 Cole Wilcox RHP
ALT Pick Bobby Miller RHP

2 Daxton Fulton LHP
ALT Pick Jeff Coswell RHP

3 Tommy Mace LHP
ALT Pick Gavin Williams RHP

4 Joe Boyle RHP
ALT Pick Nick Frasso RHP

5 Michael Kirian LHP
ALT Pick Andrew Abbott LHP ( Our Re draft)

(None of the above are HS picks)

Update Well lt looks official. We only have picks 1,3 and 4....UDFA's will fill void i would hope!

This JC Luke Little is hitting 105 they say but his control is pretty bad...Maybe a good gamble on this 6-8 lefty...

Latest BA mock has us taking Tanner Burns, Auburn RHP.

"Burns and Mlodzinski are both high-floor prospects and Burns has the superior college track record after dominating each year in the SEC. He has above-average stuff across the board and while hes undersized (6' 210), hes never had a problem taking the ball with Auburn and has logged 188.2 innings with a sub-3.00 ERA."

Yankees drafted him in the 37th round of the 2017 draft out of high school.

I would rather Miller. Tanner at 6'-0" pitches 92 -94 and projects as a 3-4 rotation guy.

This is the first year since maybe 2005 where I have little/no interest in the draft.

Latest Callis mock has us taking Arizona C Austin Wells. Big time offensive catcher. May have been best player on the Cape last summer.

BA's Draft prospect update list has Bobby Miller at 28...That would be great IMO.

I would be OK with that pick as well. Isn't he a DES? Could be tricky?

WOW, in that Mock, Wilcox, Moidinski, and Miller are off the board at 28...Why is drafting a position player first so important?

Some orgs prioritize position player first since they play everyday and less risk of injury. Cubs have historically done so. Just depends on organizational philosophy.
Cashman told Accorsi, I feel the responsibility of millions of Yankee fans on my shoulders, fans who take this very seriously and for which every game is very important. I think of that every day.

Yep for sure, but i say draft arms and sign IFA position players for the most part...With good upper level arms anything is available. JMO
