    The 2019 MLB Postseason Thread

The 2019 Major League Baseball Season started with 30 teams and it's now dwindled to 10.

Who will take home the 2019 MLB World Championship?

One of the American League's five teams: HOU, NYY, MIN, OAK and TBR

    Or

One of the National League's five teams: LAD, ATL, STL, WSH and MIL

BB55's Primer and Pick - 2019 NL Wild Card Game: 5. Milwaukee Brewers @ 4. Washington Nationals

    Tuesday October 1, 2019
    Nationals Park, Washington D.C.
8 PM ET/5 PM PT on TBS

    Keys for WSH
    - Max Scherzer setting the tone with Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin as insurance
    - Stay balanced in the lineup both right and left
    - Overcoming postseason demons (Last do-or-die, winner-take-all postseason win was in the 1981 NLDS vs. the Philadelphia Phillies)

    Keys for MIL
    - Overcoming injuries and fatigue
    - Brandon Woodruff's leash
    - Punish the Nats' bullpen with hits up the middle

Prediction: Sure, the Milwaukee Brewers look fatigue and banged up with their bullpen not as strong as 2018. However, Craig Counsell and company are resilient down the stretch fighting tooth and nail for the NL Central crown without Christian Yelich before the St. Louis Cardinals held them off.

On paper and throughout the season, the Nationals should be the better team.

However, given the fact that Washington's postseason demons are still rearing its ugly head, I give the Brewers the nod in a highly fought contest.

BB55's NL Wild Card Game Pick: MIL over WSH.

BB55's Primer and Pick - 2019 AL Wild Card Game: 5. Tampa Bay Rays @ 4. Oakland Athletics

    Wednesday October 2, 2019
    RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, CA
8 PM ET/5 PM PT on ESPN

    Keys for OAK:
    - Who gets the ball to start? Mike Fiers, Sean Manaea or Homer Bailey?
    - Grind and win at-bats
    - Overcoming postseason demons (Last do-or-die, winner-take-all postseason win was in Game 7 of the 1973 World Series vs. NYM)

    Keys for TBR:
    - Quiet the crowd often
    - Roster Flexibility
    - Been there, done that (won the AL Wild Card Game before in 2013)

Prediction: Like the Washington Nationals, the Oakland Athletics have dreamed of October glory. Their chances come again in 2019 and Bob Melvin and the A's don't want to let it slip this time.

But like the Nats, the A's need to overcome their postseason demons since they lost eight consecutive do-or-die, winner-take-all postseason games since beating the Mets in Game 7 of the 1973 World Series if they want a much deeper October run.

Despite the A's having home field in this game, I think Charlie Morton's postseason experience and having pitched well against the A's and the Rays playing well on the road get my nod.

BB55's AL Wild Card Game Pick: TBR over OAK.

Correct me if I am wrong. Nats have only won one post season series in their history and that was back in 1981 as the Expos.

That's correct. 1981 NLDS vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2.

Scherzer not exactly dominating, already down 3-0 in the second inning.

Oooh! Almost a two-run bomb from Kurt Suzuki, but caught on the warning track by Ryan Braun.

    Braun is limping a bit.

Travis Shaw will pinch hit for Brandon Woodruff.

Woodruff went four innings of one-run, two-hit ball and four strikeouts on 52 pitches.

The hit was a mistake that resulted in a solo home run off the bat of Trea Turner in the third.

Max Scherzer gets out of jail with no damage.

    Milwaukee is now 0/5 w/RISP.

Scherzer has thrown 77 pitches through five and has to work hard to grab six Ks.

Brent Suter now in for the Brewers.

No harm done. Trea Turner just missed connecting on his second home run of the game.

    RISP through five.
