Maybe this is why Eric Smith looked so dreadful at LT after Solder got hurt:

The Giants claimed Smith on waivers Sept. 1. The 24-year-old said after the game that ďat no pointĒ since becoming a Giant had he prepared to play left tackle, other than doing individual work on his own. Smith said that with Nick Gates starting at right tackle he had prepped all week to be replace Gates at jumbo tight end and handít taken any live reps at left tackle since preseason with the Jets.

Smith said he didnít know the coaches were even talking to him to enter the game when Solder got hurt.

ďIíve been preparing to be the tight end ... I didnít know Nate was out ... I didnít think they were talking to me (to go in the game).Ē

No wonder the Giants always look unprepared.

That's an embarrassing amount of ineptitude and mismanagement. Starts at the top.

You know with Remmers out that Smith is your backup tackle. How can you not have him take any reps at tackle all week? Wow.

2 things. Chad Slade is listed as the backup RT on the team depth chart. So why was he inactive?

Barkley is not the best RB of his generation. Elliot, Cook, CMC are far better. Let's see him repeat his rookie year before crowning him. These other guys are doing it year after year since being drafted.

Well he's just in his 2nd year. Whether he will be the "greatest of his generation" or not will not be written in year 2 or even year 3. We'll see. He seems to have the talent to be in that discussion if he stays healthy.

Cook had his injury filled year when he tore his ACL so now it's Barkley's time for such a year. The dude is trying to play on a bad ankle and it's now working.

Its sad that Im looking forward to the draft already, but I really hope they get into position to draft Chase Young or Andrew Thomas. Both massive areas of need that matches with the levels of draft prospects both Young and Thomas are.

Another game, another fumble lost. I don't care how many TDs he throws, he won't be a starting QB in this league if he can't stop dropping the ball. It's embarrassing at this point.

I know nothing about college football this year but Cincinnati will be taking a QB with the first pick and Giants have a shot at 2nd pick. Go Washington! Go Miami!

I didn’t realize the Packers played home games at MetLife Stadium. Today anyway.

Could you imagine the uproar if the Cowboys, Packers or Steelers were this this bad. 2-10 after a 5 and 3 win season. But no one outside of the NYC media blinks an eye that this storied franchise has sunk to rock bottom.

Have the Cowboys won a playoff game since the 90s?
The Packers were awful for 2 decades.
The Steelers, can’t argue that one. Been the most consistent franchise in the NFL for a long time.

The Cowboys have been .500 or better since Bledsoe took over with 1-2 exceptions
The Packers have been consistently been good since Favre took over in 92 with a bad 2 seasons under Mike McCarthy that lead to his firing

Neither of these teams have been as bad as the Giants the past 3 season at any point during the past 15 years. And when they were there was plenty of national media discussion as to why they are struggling. I guarantee you no one on NFL Network, ESPN or any sports radio show outside of WFAN will be going off on the Giants tomorrow.

There isnt an uproar because people are just laughing. We are pathetic, nobody gets angry about pathetic.

The sad part is that I thought I was being pessimistic about predicting 5-11. The even sadder part is that if they go 6-10 next year, people will laud it as signs of real progress.

Re: 2019 New York Giants Thread

Bad ownership leads to bad decisions and hires. It's been the Giants way for 60 something years despite the four SB wins because the Mara family seriously thinks they know football. It's the same infliction that's held the Cowboys back ever since Jerry got rid of Johnson. When the Giants had a competent GM and HC in place they do well despite the Mara family. Bad ownership is the common denominator for all sports franchises that are in the pits of despair for decades. Teams with good ownership will go through short periods of being down and out too, but, will bounce back because they make good decisions and personnel hires. We can confidently say the Giants are in the midst of a long period of decline that will last, at least, another couple of years.

It's a few year too late but Giants are finally transitioning away from Eli.
The 49ers are one of the best teams in football right now but were a laughing stock since losing in the Super Bowl to the Ravens burning through 4 coaches and multiple top 5 picks but they clearly did the rebuild right in try number 3 along with a little bit of luck along the way. That said if they don't go all the way this year or next year their window might close like the Rams did because they are about to enter some difficult salary cap decisions.

The trouble is I have no faith in Getleman being the one to lead this rebuild for the Giants. Otherwise a few losing seasons wouldn't bother me much.

For draft order, the tiebreaker is strength of schedule - Giants very likely win a tiebreaker with Washington to draft ahead of them if we're tied, and currently would win a tiebreaker with Miami, though that's close enough it could easily change. So unless we win both those games, we're in pretty good shape to pick 2nd. Especially since Miami also plays NYJ and Cin, so even if we beat them they have a decent chance to get to 4 wins.

    1. `Strength of schedule, which is the combined win-loss record for all 16 of the team's opponents in the previous season (ties count as a half win and half loss). The team with the lower strength of schedule (i.e. their opponents compiled fewer wins) is granted the earlier pick in round one.

W/L and SOS though week 13 (bottom 5) Though at the end if WS/NYG are tied the difference will be WAS (SF/CAR) v NYG (AZ/TB) the other 14 games are the same so will wash at EOS so yes at end of season the SF/AZ will be enough to give G-men tie breaker over WAS if it comes to that.

    CIN 1-11 608
    NYG 2-10 507
    WAS 3-9 497
    MIA 3-9 542
    ATL 3-9 587
