    Sure. My 13th birthday.

It was the first day of a week-long stay at Boy Scout Summer Camp. It was also the day we landed on the moon. I listened to the landing (the "the Eagle has landed" part) on a transistor radio in my campsite. Somewhere, they had found a handful of TVs, and brought us all in to the dining facility to watch the first steps. I was honestly expecting to have to catch this on radio, as well.

    Pretty special day.

Maynerd, thanks very much for your reply. That was a great story.

I remember that in 1969, I believe we still had the B&W TV sets, made by long-gone manufacturers, such as Quasar, Zenith and RCA. The images were very grainy, and there was the never-ending "blip" kind of sound when the control tower communicated with the astronauts. There have been very few things more fascinating and eye-opening than watching on live TV, the USA being the first to put a man on the moon in the great Space Race.

Sadly, I remember that date for another reason. A very close student of mine was killed in a car crash....I still can’t forget it!
