Hurricanes matched the Aho offer sheet. No surprise, had to be done.

It was a laughable offer from Marc Bergevin and Les Habs.

Speaking of laughable, Ottawa Senators taking Nikita Zaitsev from the Toronto Maple Leafs https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...x-player-deal/

The Sens taking on the FULL Zaitsev contract was insane. Zaitsev is a decent 2D, but nowhere near his price tag. That the Leafs got anything back was awesome, let Ceci, who basically slots in as a 2D at a lower price.

Seriously, Dubas is having an amazing offseason so far. Get Marner locked up at <11M and it will be astounding.

I suppose it's a stretch to blame this on Bettman, but I don't like him, so as far as I'm concerned, this is his screw up.

Goalie Robin Lehner received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, but there was one small mistake, it listed the wrong team. The trophy awarded to the NHL player who "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey" listed Lehner as a member of the New York Rangers.
    https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/r...ts-wrong-team/

(Still less embarrassing than the Garden scoreboard misspelling "Bryan" Leetch's name on his jersey retirement night).

This is interesting; I think it's a bit of fantasy land but Islanders potentially dropping a $13M offer sheet for Marner?
    https://eyesonisles.com/2019/08/11/n...itch-marner/5/

    $13M for a RW? Wow.
Getting the Isles below the cap I'm not sure is as easy as the writer makes it sound, but I suppose it's possible. Trading Leddy, I don't follow the Isles, but would another team pay the entire salary (especially since the Isles won't have any 1st rd picks to package)? Plus in 2020 off-season there would be additional moves. Also Ladd/Clutterbuck to LTIR? They're not injured right?

As a Leaf fan, if the Isles want to throw $13M at a RW, even one who I like as much as Marner, then have at it hoss.
Marner, to me at least, is a 10-10.5M RW. Young, great talent, is a wizard with the puck. If the Isles want to throw that kind of cash around plus send 4 round picks back to Toronto, I'm good with that.

The Isles blogs have weighed in on this many times and most said “No way you do this.” What Lou thinks on the matter is anybody’s guess. He did sound a little remorseful about not adding a scorer at the deadline. Hopefully he doesn’t overreact to compensate.
Given the cryptic nature of hockey injuries, I have no idea where Ladd and Clutterbuck are but it wouldn’t surprise me if neither was ready to go by the start of the season.
