In all seriousness, I don't care about it.. But I admit when I was far younger I did, a lot..
When I first got into baseball as a kid, seeing Don Mattingly announced. or in the lean years Steve Sax and Scott Sanderson as the only Yankees, that was a big deal to me as a kid. It was a matter of pride to have more Yankees than Mets there since my brother was a Mets fan. One of my worst memories in baseball was when Steve Sax, as the only Yankee that year, hit into a 4-6-3 DP against Frank Viola, then of the Mets. It was if the Mets had beaten the Yankees in a huge game. I was heartbroken and my brother was ecstatic. I don't even remember who won the game.

Point being I guess, there are probably many people who don't care, but there are probably still many who do, as I used to. Maybe they are kids and maybe they are not.

So my thought is simply this, a player is an all star if the fans who vote says he is. Is Gio Urshela deserving of a final 3 spot for 3B? Yes.. Why? Because those who voted for him says he is. I rarely think of it harder than that..

Most of us here may not care, and honestly, I probably won't even watch it, and if I do, no more than a few innings since there is nothing else on. But somewhere there is a 8 year old dying to see the entire Yankees infield start for the American League, and if there are enough voters who feel that way, then that is what I think should happen...
In several places in this comment, you pointed out "the kid" or "the 8 year old" - that is exactly the reason that this game needs to be played. It attracts the next generation of fans to this game we all love.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

I will not be voting for any all stars but I feel the "deserving" all stars this year are
    C - Gary Sanchez
    1B - Carlos Sanana
    2B - Gleyber Torres
    SS - Jorge Polanco
    3B - ALex Bregman
    OF - Mike Trout
    OF - Trey Mancini
    OF - Austin Meadows
    DH - Nelson Cruz
    SP - Mike Monor

Baseball hasn't cared about the next generation of fans since they moved all the World Series games to night games.

If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

So, I guess a Star in a team of All Stars is just somebody the fans might want to see play, for whatever reason.....the hot hand or the future Hall of Famer.

I would be fully supportive of taking the vote away from the fan again. Most baseball fans are far too dumb to know who should get the recognition (if they weren't, they'd be Yankee fans instead of other teams' fans, and they'd be posting on NYYFans).

I would also be supportive of dropping the charade entirely. It's a meaningless game, that costs me four days of real, viable Yankee baseball. Most Summers, those four days seem like an eternity.

For that matter, I'd be OK with still playing the game, but having a rule that says no Yankees will play in it. Let everybody else go to Cleveland (or wherever). Let them play 40 innings. Throw up and in, slide in spikes high, and make everybody else's starters go four or five innings while the Yankees rest. I don't imagine MLB would go for that, but it'd work for me.

The All Star Game. Maynerd is not a fan.
I'm forwarding this post to the MLB offices here in NY, attention of the Commissioner. Excellent, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Hunter Pence at DH. Also, DJL deserves to be there - somewhere.

If you’re going to have an All-Star game, I definitely support the rule that requires one representative from each team. That’s for the kid.

Re: Yankees you are voting for 2019 ASG?

Reading these comments made me think back to when I was a kid. ANd how excited I was to see players I didn't get to see. I only knew they were great based on the box scores in the newspaper and how much their baseball cards were worth. For example watching Tony Gwynn play was a pleasure. Unless the Pads played the Mets I didn't get to see one of the greatest players of his generation. (among MANY others). I guess I forgot what it meant to me. Now that I play fantasy and can watch pretty much any player or team I want it's not the same. I remember when I was in the Jr Fire Department and we used to practice for our racing team, or I was out playing roller hockey or skateboarding with my friends, I would be pushing everyone to get it over with because I'd be damned if I missed the first pitch of the ASG. It was a huge deal, and part of why I love the game, not just the Yankees.

As much as I hate seeing my guys run out there, not getting the rest they should get and worse get injured, I get it. I've been moved. And I'm stubborn AF with many things.

Latest results have Gary and DJ leading at C and 2B. Interestingly Judge is currently 4th in the OF vote just ahead of Betts.

Hey now, you're an All-Star STARTER!

⭐ Congratulations to Gary Sanchez & DJ LeMahieu on earning starting spots in the AL All-Star lineup! ⭐
Looks like Judge came in 4th.

    Cleveland bound!

Brandon Lowe, José Berríos and Xander Bogaerts have been named to the AL All-Star team to replace Tommy La Stella, Jake Odorizzi and Hunter Pence.

    Gleyber got snubbed yet again

Unbelievable. Always will pick a Red Sox over a Yankees player.

You could probably toss a coin between Boegarts and Torres.
    One is .301/.392/.541 140 OPS+ the other is .295/.363/.544 138 OPS+

Lowe was the other infielder picked ahead of Gleyber. Can't wait to see Gleyber snubbed again.
