Pretty sure that was Craig Wilson, a 1B/OF. Jack Wilson was a shortstop.

I knew that there were two Wilsons, looked up which one, and still typed it wrong.

Edit: Since Gregorius is on the 60 day IL, room will need to be made on the 40 man roster. That could make the Yankees DFA Morales rather than send one player to the minors and DFA/release/waive another minor leaguer.

So, not only doesn't he get hits, but he also turns doubles into singles, and clean singles to RF into a 9-3 putout (It was there twice in one game). He also can't score from second on a clean single into the gap. When DD gets back, they better move DJ to 1B and Voit to DH. Frazier the regular RF. Platoon Gardy and Maybin in LF. The other can be a late inning defensive replacement for Frazier.

This is an interesting wrinkle that I don't think most people realize. I didn't.

That's the trouble with putting guys on the 60 day DL to get others on the 40 man roster.

The Yankees have DiDi & Betances returning within the next couple of weeks. That's 2 DFA's.

They have Severino, Montgomery & Loaisiga coming back in the next couple of months or so. 3 more DFAs.

Heller, Andujar, Bird & the nearly famous Ellsbury all have to go back on the 40 man or be DFA'd at some point.

When Didi and Betances return, simply DFA Morales and Tulo. When Sevy returns, Maybin will be gonzo. Lastly, when Judge returns, let Green loose.

We cannot trust Montgomery to be part of the 25-man roster or even Lasagna.

I am no fan of Morales, but my suspicion is they will transfer Judge to the 60 day to make room on the 40 man and option another guy to the minors.

That's 7 right there and doesn't even include luminaries such as:

    Luis Cessa
    Stephen Tarpley
    Mike Ford
    Mike Tauchman

Andujar's slot won't have to be addressed until season's end. Possibly not Severino's or Loaisiga's or let's face it, Bird's.

I know it's only 64 AB, but the bolded DFA candidate has put up a .431 / .525 / .902 since joining SWB, with 1 error in 124 innings across 2B, SS, and 3B. Yes he's 27, and yes there's already too many middle IF for the 40 man, but unless he craters out soon I don't think they'll cut him loose.

Cotes Jr is a 24 year old LHSP with decent AAA numbers, and Ford is absolutely raking right now. Both guys are prior rule V selections that were returned. Can't see them cutting bait there either. Also pretty clear they like Cessa, Tauchman and Tarpley well enough.

But, I agree with your broader point. There is some deadweight for the immediate needs and Cashman has been pretty solid at flipping fringy 40 man assets for talent further away (e.g. Cave for Gil, Gamel for De Paula/Orozco). They'll sort it out.

The former was that classic can't hit enough to play 1B, can't field well enough to play OF.

Yet another game in which Boone pencilled in Morales (hitting under .200) to bat cleanup instead of Sanchez!

I hated this acquisition and I hate the fact that he bats cleanup. It always the same AB, he rolls over on an outside pitch and grounds it into the shift.

Old, slow and can't hit. So naturally he gets to bat 4. Morales can't be DFAd fast enough. Just watch. Didi will be back and Estrada will get sent down....

Apparently he can't hit to the opposite field, so they may as well put 7 guys on the right side. He also can't run so anyone who fields a ball 75 feet into the outfield can throw him out like they did tonight.

Pretty bummed about this Morales usage. Mostly because they could simultaneously learn something about Ford here AND almost certainly be getting better production in the process. Perhaps way better, the way Ford has been swinging the bat.

Only exit velocity I want to see from Kendrys is twice the speed of sound leaving the Yankees for destinations unknown.

the mistake wasn't seeing if this experiment would work, it was not pulling the plug early enough when it didn't work.
