    2020 Democratic Nomination

We're understandably seeing more and more discussion in the non-POTUS thread about the many Democrats who are declared for the Presidency, or who appear to be running. It's probably appropriate to start a separate thread.

As in the other political threads, please be careful. Disagree, but don't make accusations about what someone "really thinks" if they happen to disagree with you. Keep the discussion as respectful as possible. [Don't make me put my Moderator hat on!]

So, here's the field. What do you think? Who makes it to the finish line? Who drops out first? What makes some of these people think they have a chance?

    Play nice. Go.

Joe Biden - former US Senator from DE and former VPOTUS
Cory Booker - US Senator from NJ
Pete Buttigieg - Mayor of South Bend, IN

Julian Castro - former Secretary HUD and former Mayor of San Antonio
John Delaney - former Member of Congress from Maryland
Tulsi Gabbard - Member of Congress from HI

Kirsten Gillibrand - US Senator from NY
Mike Gravel - former US Senator from AK
Kamala Harris - US Senator from CA

John Hickenlooper - former Governor of CO
Jay Inslee - Governor of WA
Amy Klobuchar - US Senator from MN

Wayne Messam - Mayor of Miramar, FL
Beto O'Rourke - former Member of Congress from TX
Tim Ryan - Member of Congress from OH

Bernie Sanders (I) - US Senator from VT
Eric Swalwell - Member of Congress from CA
Elizabeth Warren - US Senator from MA

Marianne Williamson - Author and lecturer
Andrew Yang - Entrepreneur and lecturer
[Edit] Seth Moulton - Member of Congress from MA, and the guy Maynerd left off the list completely[/Edit]

Do your groupings have any secret meaning or just copy/pasted from somewhere?

    My opinion.

Top tier -- those with a genuine chance

    Biden
    Buttigieg
    Harris
    Klobuchar
    Sanders
    Warren

Second tier -- will need to pull a rabbit out of their hat OR are positioning themselves to round out the ticket as a VP

    Booker
    Castro
    Gabbard
    Gillibrand
    Hickenlooper
    Inslee
    O'Rourke

    Third tier -- why bother?

    Delaney
    Gravel
    Messam
    Ryan
    Swalwell
    Williamson
    Yang

Um. Yes, there's a secret meaning. I call it 'alphabetical order.' Don't ask me for the rubric; it's pretty complicated. It's also arranged in groups of three, because a list of 20 is a little cumbersome.

Andrew Yang went to my high school, so I like that.

First you leave out the man of the people, Seth Moulton, and then you use this discriminatory rubric? Have you no shame?

Voter turnout in the election is key for a democrat to win; the greater the turnout, the greater the chances of winning. My initial take is that Biden wins the nomination, but I really don't know who is capable of getting the most voters to the polls. Biden/Harris might do it.

I've made it a personal goal to completely ignore the Democratic primary until at least 6 months before the first primary contest.

I think your inclusion of Klobuchar in the top tier is wishful thinking.

OK. I put him in the list, but in so doing, my magical and scientific rubric is shot all to hell so now Texsahara is going to accuse me of some shady, underhanded, sexist rank-ordering.

She was a tough pick between the top two tiers. I decided to include her in the top because she's not as extreme to the Left as many other candidates, and if a push for a more moderate candidate materializes (one who's not too handsy with the womenfolk), she could very well become the answer.

Similarly, my initial inclination would not have been to include Buttigieg in the upper tier, but his momentum (right now) is very powerful, and he's an extremely likable, well-versed candidate.

But, yeah, I like Klobuchar, as I like Hickenlooper, and I think either of them could appeal to a broad cross-section of society. From a wishful thinking perspective, I only included one of them in that top tier.

Yang....has no plans to ban circumcision, only to “inform parents that it is entirely up to them whether their infant gets circumcised, and that there are costs and benefits either way.”
Relax, John. No one is coming to take your circumcision away. Just some "common sense" regulations.

Huh. They’d have to take it from my cold, dead...never mind.
