Why is it not racist when Donald Trump calls a white reporter “dumb”? There is an ENORMOUS difference between Trump calling a reporter who happens to be black “dumb” and what Biden said today.

This is the same trap so many fell into when Trump called Hillary a “nasty woman”. They latched onto it and cried sexism even though Trump had spent the past year and a half calling every Republican candidate under the sun “nasty”. I remember on this very forum I said Hillary was “unlikeable” and certain posters acted like I had murdered someone.

You can think a black person is “dumb” and a woman is “unlikeable” without being racist and sexist.

    You're wrong.

The only reporters Trump calls dumb are the black reporters. He doesn't say that of the white reporters, only the black reporters. That's why it's racist.

It’s an opinion supported by decades of information on Trump and reinforced on steroids these last 4 years stating with his run for the Republicon nomination.

Huh? Trump clashes with reporters and calls them names all the time, many of them white. Terrible, rude, nasty, etc. I guess you might have me on the technicality of saying “dumb” specifically? I must say, I don’t even know the situation you’re referring to that just happened, but I don’t doubt it happened.

There isn't any doubt that Trump is a racist and I'm surprise somebody is trying to argue against that fact here. On second thought, I shouldn't be surprise.

As YT said, 50 years of evidence support the inescapable conclusion that Trump is racist. And this from someone who is loath to call individuals racist.

I agree big picture but it's May. I think from once a candidate is selected until autumn when the election is close is the time to try to push the candidate toward what matters to you. For the more progressives, it's time to continue to vote for Bernie to get as many electors as possible to try to gain any concessions that you can in the platform. I want healthy debate and diverse ideas. I don't want the Dems to be like the Republicans. I don't want us all to march in lock step. I just want us to unify when it's time to vote.

For any primaries still going by all means cast your vote for Bernie if he’s on the ballot and he’s higher on your list than Biden.

But come November the Democratic candidate is the only reasonable alternative to 4 more years of lies, corruption, grift, unqualified judges getting lifetime appointments, and woefully poor choices running government agencies.

The way I see not voting for Biden or Trump means you either truly hate what both parties stand for or you want to see it all burn.

If you are a Democrat you’ll vote for Biden in November unless something catastrophic hits between now and then resulting in someone else heading up the Democratic ticket. I mean not wishing anything bad on Biden but he is 77 and we are in Pandemic that hits elderly harder so you never know.

But if you don’t vote for Biden, you’re not Democrat. You may be an idealist, you may be a socialist, you may be a left wing anarchist, you may be a delusional dreamer thinking your protest vote actually matters.

And by “you” I mean the proverbial you, not you personally Texsahara

When both candidates are hostile to my major issues, I won't vote for either of them. And again, I am a five-time elected Democrat.

So Westchester/Rockland folks. Who you got for NY-17 to replace Nita Lowey? I am on team Mondaire Jones (shocking I know) and I'm doing what I can for him but I suspect he's too far left and unknown to win. But I don't hate David Buchwald. Adam Schleifer seems to be throwing an awful lot of his own money at it which always makes me hesitant. It's not easy to find out a lot about any of the candidates. Just say no to David Carlucci please.

It’s not an abstract choice. It’s Trump v. Biden. I did not want Biden as the nominee, but I can’t pretend that the choice between them is irrelevant to me.

Biden might not advance my agenda the way I’d like, but Trump will set them back in ways that might be irrevocable. As it stands, the next administration will have to spend more time undoing the damage Trump has done than advancing new legislation. Four more years, and the government might have become too corrupt and too hollow for us ever to be able to do anything ambitious, much less progressive.
