Re: 2019 Greg Bird Performance Thread
We saw in Spring Training that he can indeed still play. But at this point he needs to start over in minors. Fans forget that Bird has actually never been optioned to the minors since his MLB debut. So he does have options left but If I am Cashman I insist on a two-way contract that pays him less in AAA.
The best case scenario is that he is outrighted off the 40-man roster and resigns to a minor league deal.http://vimel.ru/e6748

Re: 2019 Greg Bird Performance Thread
Why? If they still believe he can play his salary is peanuts. Honestly they need to decide is if Bird taking a 40 man spot better than protecting another prospect from Rule 5 draft.
I think the odds of him getting through waivers and being outrighted are minimal. There are plenty of 2nd division teams with no 40 man roster log jam who would be happy to take a chance on Bird's HR potential for his $1.4M - $1.6M salary next year.Baseball is life;
the rest is just details.

Re: 2019 Greg Bird Performance Thread
Spring Training...are we talking about spring training?
DJ hit .205 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs in spring training...means nothing
Bird needs to "fly the coop"...one more year in the minors to get it figured out...if not, his time has passed.

This article from The Post suggests he is a free agent if non-tendered.

Re: 2019 Greg Bird Performance Thread
If I understand things correctly, he will be in the minors for the Yankees this year? If so, i think this is the right choice...don't really want him to slip away to another team for nothing though.

I was never a Bird guy but I wish him the best in resurrecting his baseball career with another organization. It's not like the guy wanted to be hurt and injured.

So much potential, so many injuries.....Nick Johnson Part II
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes
