2019 Greg Bird Performance Thread

Serious question, even outside of injuries, can he still play? Let's assume he took a magic pill that would prevent injuries ever again. It's a super competitive, very very very fine tuning technical sport.
Can You just not play baseball for basically 3 years and come right back into it.

Same thing with Elsbury. I don't think anyone will say he's not a very good player when healthy. If he takes the same magic pill, is he still any good?

We saw in Spring Training that he can indeed still play. But at this point he needs to start over in minors. Fans forget that Bird has actually never been optioned to the minors since his MLB debut. So he does have options left but If I am Cashman I insist on a two-way contract that pays him less in AAA.

The best case scenario is that he is outrighted off the 40-man roster and resigns to a minor league deal.

Bird needs to "fly the coop"...one more year in the minors to get it figured out...if not, his time has passed.

I was never a Bird guy but I wish him the best in resurrecting his baseball career with another organization. It's not like the guy wanted to be hurt and injured.

It is possible he could be in the minors, but things have to break right.

The Yankees have ten days to trade or release him. He also has to clear waivers. Only the can he become a mL piece, but with his release, he essentially becomes a FA, I believe.
