I want to see some good science fiction writers tackle life as a bounty hunter. Screw Boba Fett. Give me a story about Cad Bane. Let the bad guy win. Keep the force out of it. Show me a story about a robot uprising (IG-88).

I dunno. It sucks that we have this amazing franchise with garbage writing. Even Star Trek Voyager would borrow from great sci-fi short stories, ie the Dragon's Egg.
    The Mandalorian looks good.

I like the force stuff. I just don't love the new characters and how they've been developed.

The force is too hokey to center a movie around it. It's fairy tale / fantasy better told in an epic poem

Seriously though: my biggest problem with Star Wars is that it is decidedly not science fiction. It's a space opera, albeit told through a political science filter.

I will say that these new movies are making miss the prequels for their complexity.

ETA: Sorry for all the grumbling!

Obviously the prequels missed the mark, but at least the scripts were fresh(er), and they contained Darth Maul (however briefly).

Nonsense is being told Rey, a DIY (at the Home Depot in the outer rim, presumably) Darth Vader and the bad guys building another space station even badder and evil-er than before makes for good cinema.

oh Iím not defending the Last Jedi or how Rey is a complete and total Mary Sue. But outside of RotS the prequels were one step above garbage. Except for the light saber battles. They were cool. And yes, Darth Maul was awesome.

I'll revisit this after Endgame; can't get excited for this until after that point.

For what its worth I think the beginning and ending of TLJ was solid. Rogue One is probably my favorite Star Wars movie of all time (and it might be solely because of the last 45 mins).

(yeah I admit it. JJ got me. Hook, line and sinker with Palpatine. I regret nothing)

It's not as if the prequels were going to make a difference to Disney anyway. They were going to rehash the same old story. At least the prequels were original.

The prequels are terrible. I see them from time to time and man they are garbage.
