CC, I bet, can almost taste that 250th win... which will come soon.

He became the 30th pitcher to 550 starts according to Michael Kay and the 31st pitcher to 550 starts according to Baseball-Reference. The only pitcher with more starts who never pitched in relief is Tom Glavine.

CC has been staked to an early 6-0 lead in today's game against the Rays.

With a 12-1 lead bottom of the 7th, CC is quite assured of getting his 250th win.

Re: 2019 CC Sabathia Performance Thread

As I just posted in the season topic, he got his 250th win to give him sole possession of 48th in career wins on Baseball-Reference. Four of the last five pitchers to reach 250 wins did it with the Yankees. They were Sabathia, Pettitte, Mussina, and Johnson, with non-Yankee Jamie Moyer mixed in.

I hope this nails a HOF spot for CC.

I think being the third lefty with 3000 Ks already nailed the HOF for CC.

I believe the only pitcher to go 250/3000 and not make the HOF is Roger Clemens, who obviously is out for a specific reason.

Id actually give him more credit for his insane second half in 2008, after his trade to Milwaukee.

Yes, he was constantly pitching on 3 days rest, carried the team.

Understood, but in the 2009 playoffs Girardi rode CC almost as hard. Remember that quirky extra off-day in the ALCS that allowed Girardi to avoid using a fourth starter against the Angels?

Heck yeah, they went 3-man rotation all the way through.

Right, I should have said that. But what I specifically remember was how they would have had to use a fourth starter if not for an off day in the ALCS. I just took a look and it seems that didn't affect CC directly though.

    ALDS:
    10/7 - Sabathia
    10/9 - Burnett
    10/11 - Pettitte

    ALCS:
    10/16 - Sabathia (8 days rest)
    10/17 - Burnett (7 days rest)
    10/19 - Pettitte (7 days rest)
    10/20 - Sabathia (3 days rest)
10/22 - Burnett (4 days rest) -- this is where the extra off day allowed them to use Burnett on regular rest
10/25 - Pettitte (5 days rest) -- I think there was a planned off day and a rainout here

    World Series:
    10/28 - Sabathia (7 days rest)
    10/29 - Burnett (6 days rest)
    10/31 - Pettitte (5 days rest)
    11/1 - Sabathia (3 days rest)
    11/2 - Burnett (3 days rest)
    11/4 - Pettitte (3 days rest)

With the pressure off of CC in pursuing that 250th win, I expect CC will pitch consistently good from now on.

I think he's a little worse than Mussina. CC has a World Series, Cy Young, and more strikeouts. Mussina is better in wins, winning percentage, ERA, K/BB, and WHIP. CC can have a better ERA if he has an amazing second half. If he pitches 80 more innings, he would need to allow 23 or fewer earned runs to have a lower ERA than Mussina. CC is deserving, but Mussina got about 25 percent in his first year, and I think enough of the 75 percent will make CC wait also.

Re: 2019 CC Sabathia Performance Thread

Mike Moose Mussina only won 20 games in his final season (with the Yankees).

CC has become more of a legend. In the borderline cases, I think a lot of it ends up being about people’s feelings and narrative about players rather than the stats.

One of the many personality traits that I admire about CC is that he doesn't seem to be bothered by pressure

CC faces the Jays Aaron Sanchez this evening hoping to stop this 1-game losing streak.

With Marcus Stroman having pitched yesterday, we dodged a bullet.

CC had his second straight quality start after having pitched 6 innings and 104 pitches. His team is leading 10-2 bottom of the 6th.

    Meanwhile, the Chi-Sox lead the Bo-Sox 5-3.

He tied Bob Gibson for 47th in wins with 251. There are players with 252, 253, and 254. Within a couple of months he could pass Pettitte, who's 42nd with 256. It will be hard to reach Ted Lyons, who's 41st with 260. He's going to finish tenth in career wins for the Yankees.
