Yelich homered this afternoon so 23 for him.

Gary is doing a MUCH better job behind the plate this year. It has gone virtually unnoticed.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

I think it's been very noticeable. He's putting in a good effort inning after inning and last year he simply didn't. Seems to me he had an awakening over the winter that he can be a big star if he shows up for every pitch.

I agree. Perhaps a better word/phrase than "unnoticeable" would have been "un commented upon." Anyway, he is doing very well defensively.

Hes night and day compared to last year. Hes moving his feet and getting his body in position to block pitches. Not reaching nearly as much as he did last season.

It actually may have gotten worse overall. See my post on the prior page:

I don't think that's true. I watch every game, almost every pitch, I haven't noticed him framing poorly. I think he's done a good job at that as well. I also don't care if the "stats" say that he's not getting the calls or whatever, you can notice framing by watching the game, just because he doesn't always get the call does not mean he's not doing well.

Why isn't anyone discussing Sanchez's pulled double down the LF line in the top of the 9th inning?

Was this posted...I know there was some discussion on his framing before.

Its noisy but the framing is stopping him from being an MVP candidate. So far.

Gary has such an aura that he is leading all AL catchers in All-Star voting.

If he can remain healthy, hes on pace for a historic season.

Without checking, Im pretty sure hed the the first catcher in MLB history to hit 50 HR in a season if he keeps this up.

It is quite remarkable that Javy Lopez would hold the record for most HRs by a catcher in one season when you had bashers like Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench and even Yogi Berra.

    Only 14 of Sanchez's HR's are as a C. Small sample, but he's hit 6(!) in the 8 games he's DH'd.

I stand corrected...thank you. I honestly didnt think he played that many games at first/third that early in his career. 12 games at first and 1 at third in '70.

ETA: Although most of those non catcher HR were from LF...2 games at CF..I wanna see Sanchez in CF

Not taking anything away from Gary but the top catcher the last few seasons in the AS voting is out for this season.
