    This one did.

Mighty fine blast by The Sanchino at a most opportune time last evening.

Re: 2019 Gary Sanchez performance thread

Right now Sanchez looks great on both sides of the ball. If he could just sustain this level of offense and defense (within reason), he'd be everything we ever could have wished for.

Of course, like any player, he'll go through the occasional slump at the plate, sometimes even a prolonged slump. We should be able to accept that as "normal."

The part that's not "normal" to me, that I just don't have an explanation for, is why every so often he has a string of bad games behind the plate. It's been quite a while since he's had one of those spells, and I'm almost tempted to believe we'll never see one again. But in the back of my mind I'm always wondering if he's going to have a sudden rash of inexplicable passed balls that will make me scratch my head and wonder why he can't sustain the level of defensive performance we're seeing from him right now.

It does seem that way, and if you look at his game logs you can see clusters of passed balls in spurts. A string of games, or even within a single game. Whatever it is, I hope they can help him figure it out.

That said, while I wish the PB issue would resolve itself (and it does seem to have abated somewhat this year) I still stand behind the comments that I have made along with others that it is an enormously overblown concern when evaluating him as a player and even just evaluating his overall defense.

Has anyone done the analysis on whether his occasional bad streaks behind the plate correlate with slumps at the plate? Does one lead to the other?

Amazing player. The unfortunate thing is that he missed 3 weeks. He would have 20 homeruns at this point if he was healthy. I believe he's still on pace to hit 50 Homer's.

Can we all remember this time now, before we start overreacting in a few weeks at a couple passed balls? Please mental note (or physical note if you need it) that Gary Sanchez is both a decent defensive catcher and an amazing offensive weapon especially because he hits like pretty much no other catcher in baseball.

Oh and he’ll also bust it down the line to beat out a double play to the best of his ability.

I did notice that hustle, and have to admit I haven't typically thought of him as a guy who does that. I feel like he still has a little work to do to shake off any lingering doubts about his maturity / focus / effort level. But maybe he's growing into his full potential before our eyes.

The fact you're asking this makes me think we already know the answer.

He has 16 home runs and 2 doubles. Nobody has ever finished a season with at least 350 plate appearances and at least 8 times as many home runs as doubles.

It looks more like he has just returned to the player he has always been minus one bad season

I agree that if he keeps it up the rest of this year, he'll have proven that 2018 was an aberration.

Exactly, 2018 is looking like the outlier. And even then he still hit for power.
