I viewed him as a good but not great pitcher. And like you said his price was too high. If we spend that kind os cash, I want a proven American League stud. Like Elsbury, I rated him as good but we payed him as great.

It's not crazy money. That's just Yankee Brass messaging you're buying. Corbin's AAV is about what Tanaka's is.

And it's quite possible he lives up to the contract. as another poster said, time will tell if the Yanks regret not going all in on him.

Righties have been taking Hess deep a lot this season, hence no Gardner and Morales.

The only regrets will be ours. Hal won't care as long as his team remains in the race every year, which they will. He clearly doesn't thirst for championships as much as his father did. Money drives him. That's all.

Well stupidity sometime drove his father. Or perhaps you're too young to recall the 80s.

80s were bad but to be fair had the WC system been used then Yankees might have been a playoff team from 84-86.

True. And 89 was the only horrid year in the decade (might have been the only sub .500 year that decade). 90-92 was a continuation of 89 and downright unwatchable. What made the 80s so distasteful, in my opinion, was trading alot of young guys who proved to be great players elsewhere.

Oh yeah over all the Yankees had the highest winning percentage of any team in the 80 and George did spend.

He was just stupid about how he spent and traded. I think you might agree on both counts.

Stanton was supposed to DH in the minors tonight. He’s no longer in the lineup.

Yankees were 79-83 in 1982. That was the year George got a wild hair to turn them into a "running" team and brought in guys like Dave Collins, they ended up not running that much and didn't hit many homers either.

I actually thought 1992 wasn't that bad, even though they only went 76-86. It was Showalter's first year and their run differential was better than in 1991, not getting blown out as often. You could see Buck was getting them more fundamentally sound and the organization was turning a corner.

Thank you for the corrections. IIRC, Bernie wasnn't playing everyday yet? I just recall the pitching sucking. I think Melido and/or Kaminiecki each had one decent year between 90-92, but I have blocked alot of that out.

Frazier has options...don't think Maybin does. If so, then I agree.

ITA with this. And the players, being competitive, respected him for that

Silly, Maybin is a replacement level player. Frazier belongs in the big leagues.

Why did LeMahieu come out early? Just because we have a huge lead? This year, I am always thinking the worst.

ITA with this also. I wanted him up 2 yrs ago when Gardy started his descent. His arm is big league. He hits. Hits with power. Fast. Runs hard every ground out. Tough. And I don't think he drops many balls out there. No, he's not an all star, yet.
