Re: 2019 Brain Cashman Performance Thread

Is there a GM of the Year award?

I think Cashman should get it. Let's hear from all you Cashman lovers and haters.

    Mods,

After signing Cole, can you please correct my spelling mistake of Cashman's first name?

Thank You. I can not wait for next season to start (definitely coming to stadium to see him pitch (I live in MA and can't get tickets). This is my best Christmas Present this year. I was hoping this would work out and it did. Kinda scary. I am not a carpenter and it usually takes me 3 tries to get it right - You got it right. Maybe your best signing ever but time will tell. Merry Christmas.....

I'm excited. The only thing that concerns me is that he's only been truly elite the past couple of years. However, I feel like he's the top FA pitcher since CC.

Cashman got an ace. Now work on extending LeMahieu.

He was borderline elite in 2015 as well.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Matt Blake does with Gerrit Cole.

I know this is perhaps the wrong place to point this out (given the heightened awareness we all tend to possess), but turning the page from Rothschild to Blake makes me feel a whole lot better about this signing.

I disagree with the "nowhere near as good" part. CC actually had the higher WAR in 2007-2008 (6.4 and 7.4) than Cole did in 2018-2019 (6.0 and 7.4), plus CC had a 5 WAR in 2006. Cole's ERA is lower and he has more K's, but it's a different time. CC went deeper and pitched in the tougher park. He was also dominant down the stretch when the Brewers needed him to make the playoffs. That said, I'm happy to have Cole just as I was happy to have CC in 2009. I was not happy when we signed Ellsbury so hopefully we don't make anymore stupid signings like that over the next decade.

Cashman manipulated the fanbase emotionally by downplaying our chances at Gerrit, just so he can get extra credit for doing something that downright expected of him going into the offseason. Now he's celebrated as a hero for "defying odds" and getting deal done. ridiculous.

The one thing I always maintained about Cashman is that he's a very shrewd and savy media operator, excellent at crafting his public image.

I'd say a lot of Yankees fans owe Cashman an apology today. Same with Hal.

I’m glad they got Cole but I’m wondering when the Mets with their new owner will begin to throw out millions to get big free agents?

what nonsense are you talking about? cole stats with houston dominate cc even in cc best season hits to inning pitched strikeouts e.r.a domination of a game etc etc etc..

While I'm not going to credit Cashman with a master stroke on signing Cole, because it was a record setting deal in terms of length and AAV for a SP, this is a little tin-foil-hat-ish.
