Re: 2019 National Football League Season Thread
Definitely kind of kills some of my interest in the season. The guy basically firebombed a (2nd) franchise to get to New England, how wonderful for them. The Steelers didnt want to trade him to a rival, and he manipulates his way into giving himself to them for free. Tampering obviously won’t be proven, but like in the NBA, it’s pretty much implied.
It’s worse than the Anthony Davis/Paul George trade demands of the NBA because in both cases those franchises were able to get a ton of assets in return for being strong armed.

Re: 2019 National Football League Season Thread
Detroit went up 24-6 at Arizona with 14:47 left. Arizona tied it at 24 with 0:43 left, and both teams made field goals in overtime. In a play that started with 10 seconds left in overtime, Stafford threw a ball through the hands of an Arizona player who should have intercepted it, and Arizona would have been in field goal range if he caught it. This is the second consecutive Week 1 with a tie after Pittsburgh and Cleveland last year. In the 46 years from 1972 through 2017, there were no ties in Week 1.
Baltimore won 59-10 at Miami, which was the first 59-10 score in NFL history.

The decision to shorten OT to 10 minutes has led to more and more tie games. WTG NFL.

Re: 2019 National Football League Season Thread
It definitely wasn’t a “master” plan, but it clearly became a real plan at some point. Considering he literally filmed gloating videos documenting it all as it happened. He hasn’t been too toxic when it comes to the patriots, they get basically a free shot whereas it cost the raiders and Steelers assets
The $9m vs $30m comparison doesn’t make that much sense, does it? $9m for one year vs $30m for multiple. Brown will almost certainly make more money in years to come to close that gap.

Yeah, it's disturbing how Brown and the Patriots played that. It was the right move for the Raiders to get him off the team, but I wish they would have kept him on their roster out of spite.
Makes you appreciate what Tomlin had to put up with.
As a Giants fan, that was one of the highlights of the first week.

Re: 2019 National Football League Season Thread
I think most fans agree that OT shouldn't end on a coin toss and with kickers nailing 55+ yarders it almost assures calling heads or tails will win you the game in OT. I think they should go even further and guarantee both teams get to posses the ball even if the first team scores a TD. Just make it a max 15 minute quarter.

Re: 2019 National Football League Season Thread
Coin toss didn't necessarily guarantee a win.
It's true that the team winning the coin toss tended to win OT, but the number of times that actually happened on the first possession (without the opponent's offense touching the ball) was somewhere around 25%.
The NFL changed a rule to fix a scenario which didn't affect 3 out of 4 teams.
I'm in the minority, but I didn't mind the old rule.Jingoism is not Patriotism

The Bucs talked Bruce Arians out of retirement to once again be the Quarterback Whisperer, but I’m not sure he can fix stupid.
