You hear stuff like that but at the end of the day players are getting 49% of revenues one way or another. Clowny's million is going to be another player's million, the owners aren't just going to pocket it

They fired their GM so that didn't help. Plus Clowney has missed a lot of games.

It is still shady as hell using a loophole like that. In a fight between billionaires and millionaires, I'll always side with the millionaires. The NFL is a joke.

I just posted tweets from Adam Schefter's handle. Looks like the mental strain coming back from his injury or something that made Andrew Luck call it quits.

This is bigger than that. Luck’s retirement may have been because he’s tired of rehabbing, but it can also be viewed as a man who made a life-altering amount of money, and then cashed the bleep out to preserve his brain as best he can to enjoy the rest of life.

That fact scares the crap out of the NFL.

Yep, he’s tired of rehabbing, physical therapy, getting injured, being constantly in pain, getting injured again, then back to rehabbing, physical therapy, being in pain again, rinse and repeat. It’s Groundhog Day and gets old really quickly.

And that makes you appreciate Tom Brady and his preparation even more. It’s really tons of recovery, ie sleep/massage, injury prevention ie. his pliability training, nutrition, mental preparation, game preparation, etc.

Don't forget Eli, Brees and Rivers. These guys never get injured and are playing into their late 30's.

no it makes you realize that mobile quarterbacks are reckless. QBs like Brady and Eli are smart, they stay in the pocket and don't run around or try to run through players or take hits, and they stay off the injured liat. Then you have RGIII and everyone in between

A guy like carson wentz will be finished in a few years

There's many aspects to it though. Luck wasn't what you'd call a mobile QB, but his team made terrible personnel decisions and it resulted in him being pummeled for years on end. I always thought Luck was the better choice for the long term over RG3, but I never imagined Brady and Brees would be playing longer than both of those guys.

The Patriots' starting center looks to be done for the year, that does not bode well for Mr. Brady this season. He's been lucky to have a really good line in front of him (along with having one of the best football minds of any player ever) to keep him upright into his 40s.

It also helps that the Pats always built an OL around Brady, and also ran an offense that with the exception of a few years with Moss, has always been a 3-step drop and quick pass scheme. Up until last year, the Colts OL in front of Luck was dreadful.

Barkley will be fun to watch again this year...that's about all I got.
I hope Jones is starting at some point just so we can see what we have.
Beyond that I expect the Giants to be middling to poor.

There's probably a ceiling of mediocrity for the year, but there are a lot of young players I am curious about -- the defensive backfield and the defensive line in particular. And, I agree - I hope they don't trip over themselves because of the mistakes they made a couple of years ago and sit Eli at some point to give Jones some experience. I don't think they'll have a great record, but I hope they show improvement and set themselves up to be more competitive in 2020.
