Re: 2019 NCAA Division I College Football Season Thread (FBS and FCS)

Dabo Swinney and the defending NCAA Division I FBS National Champion Clemson Tigers are back in the College Football Playoffs!

The #3 ranked team in the nation won their 19th Atlantic Coast Conference title and their 25th conference title overall after thrashing the #23 Virginia Cavaliers, 62-17 in the ACC title game from Charlotte, NC's Bank of America Stadium.

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence completed 16 of 22 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns. Tee Higgins was the main target who caught nine balls for 182 yards and had a receiving hat trick.

Travis Etienne added 114 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Most of the Clemson starters didn't play in the fourth quarter.

Bryce Perkins had 266 passing yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort for Virginia. The Clemson defense had three interceptions and two sacks in the victory.

It will be Clemson's fifth straight appearance in the College Football Playoff as they go to 13-0 overall and currently having the nations' longest winning streak in FBS play at 28 straight games.

Re: 2019 NCAA Division I College Football Season Thread (FBS and FCS)

    ruthianblast can breathe again!

Ryan Day leads the #1 team in the nation, the Ohio State Buckeyes, into the College Football Playoffs after winning their third consecutive and 38th Big Ten Conference title with a 34-21 victory over the #8 ranked Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Championship Game from Indianapolis, IN's Lucas Oil Stadium.

Paul Chryst's Badgers had to make the Buckeyes earn the Big Ten title as they had a 21-7 halftime lead.

Jonathan Taylor scored the only points of the first quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run three minutes and two seconds into the contest as Wisconsin led 7-0.

The Badgers continued to use their rushing attack to give the Buckeyes defense fits as Jack Coan scampered into the end zone with a 14-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 Wisconsin with 9:41 remaining in the first half.

J.K. Dobbins got the Buckeyes on the board with a two-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7 with 42 seconds left.

But the Badgers answered quickly as Taylor scored his Coan sneaked in his second touchdown run of the game to make it a 21-7 game at halftime.

The Badgers defense gashed the Buckeyes defense with 201 rushing yards on 37 carries and Taylor had 148 of them.

However, it was all Buckeyes in the second half after they pitched a 27-0 second half shutout.

Justin Fields led the charge with a 16-yard strike to Jeremy Ruckert to make it 21-14 Wisconsin early in the third.

Blake Haubeil slotted home a 27-yard field goal and Fields threw his second touchdown of the third to K.J. Hill from 16 yards out up the middle to give the Buckeyes their first lead of the night, 24-21 after three.

Fields continued to sizzle as he found Hill again for his third touchdown pass of the game from 13 yards out to give the Buckeyes a 10-point cushion with 12:09 left in regulation, 31-21.

Haubeil made it a 13-point lead with a 24-yard field goal as Ohio State was in front 34-21 with under five minutes to go.

The Buckeyes outgained the Badgers, 492-432. Dobbins also outgained Taylor with 172 yards on 33 carries.

The Buckeyes go to 13-0 overall.

Re: 2019 NCAA Division I College Football Season Thread (FBS and FCS)

BB55's Three Studs and Three Duds - College Football: Week 15

    Three Studs
    1. Louisiana State Tigers
Why? Ed Orgeron saw LSU break their eight-year SEC title drought after the Tigers crushed the Georgia Bulldogs, 37-10.

Joe Burrow continues to dazzle with 349 passing yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions against Georgia and has 78.3% completions, 4,366 yards, 44 TD and 6 INTs.

    2. Oklahoma Sooners
Why? Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners will send thank you cards to the Oregon Ducks and the LSU Tigers as they won their respective conference games and pat themselves on the back to outlast the Baylor Bears in overtime to win the Big XII title and punched their ticket to the College Football Playoffs.

    3. Memphis Tigers
Why? After seeing his Memphis Tigers lose two consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship Games to the Central Florida Knights in 2017 and 2018 and also have rumors swirling about the Florida State Seminoles head coaching vacancy, Mike Norvell saw the Memphis Tigers win the AAC after beating the Cincinnati Bearcats twice in eight days.

Memphis is also going to a New Year's Six bowl game as the top Group of Five team in the nation.

    Three Duds
    1. Pacific-12 Conference
Why? Another year the Pacific-12 Conference has to wait for one of their teams to make the College Football Playoffs.

The Utah Utes were ranked #5 and had a chance to put pressure on the selection committee to hold off Oklahoma and leap frog Georgia to grab the #4 spot with a Pac-12 title on Friday Night against Oregon.

However, CJ Verdell gashed the Utah defense and the Ducks defense thwarted Tyler Huntley, Zack Moss and company inside Levi's Stadium for the Pac-12 title.

Not good for a beat'em up conference that has seen only two College Football Playoff berths in the first six editions.

    2. Georgia Bulldogs
Why? I don't think Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have gotten over their 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship heartbreak against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Georgia laid another egg against LSU in the SEC title game and possibly out of the New Year's Six bowl picture.

    3. The one team that will not receive a bowl bid
Why? There were 79 bowl teams bowl eligible in 2019. However, only 78 will be filled and four teams already accepted a bowl bid (Charlotte 49ers and Buffalo Bulls will tangle in the Bahamas Bowl, the Brigham Young Cougars will play in the Hawaii Bowl and the Oregon Ducks will play in the Rose Bowl as the Pacific-12 champion). That one team will not go into a bowl game come FBS Bowl selection Sunday.

As bad as OSU looked in the first half the second half is the team everyone expected.
Glad they get to play Clemson. I've been present for the last two losses to Clemson hopefully this team led by Chase can show up and disrupt the Clemson game plan.
