Judge was Oppenheimer’s blind squirrel moment. If he knew what he had, he wouldn’t have taken Jagielo first.

Bingo. Oppy had three chances and guessed right on one. Even going back to 2018, they seemed to want to go for a catcher, their choices were Anthony Seigler and Bo Naylor. He must have flipped a coin because he picked the wrong one, the way it looks at the present time.

Re: Yankees 2019 Minor League News And Notes
There is no defense for Oppenheimer's terribleness, but I'm sure it won't stop some from coming up with one. Oppenheimer is awful on the aggregate. That's what actually matters. If he hit on a pick or two, that doesn't really mean anything. As philleotardo mentioned, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

This is so exciting. I hope it's not the peak.
Baseball America’s grades for Jasson Dominguez are laugh out loud absurd:
— Max Wildstein (@MaxWildstein) November 13, 2019
Hit: 60
Power: 70
Run: 70
Fielding: 60
Arm: 60
He’s only 16 years old. That’s just nuts. https://t.co/U1225HmQvVJaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA

Re: Yankees 2019 Minor League News And Notes
Some day this winter, for no good reason, I’m going to sit down with a glass of Canadian Club and look at Baseball America’s pre-draft rankings from ‘06-present and see what players Oppenheimer could have chosen if he had merely used an online subscription rather than his instincts. I would guess, even given the obvious win in Judge, that you could add 10 WAR over that time.

Re: Yankees 2019 Minor League News And Notes
Nobody in MLB has had a worse ADP in those years than the Yankees, so you'd expect them to be last place in returns. Compare that to IFA, where they sign some of the top free agents, and you understand why there's a difference. The real question is why are the Mariners so bad at drafting.

Re: Yankees 2019 Minor League News And Notes
Ok, and the Yankees have drafted Judge, Hughes, and Kennedy in the first round in the time marked by that chart. That doesn't change the fact that the ADP of the Yankees is the worst in the MLB and therefore you'd expect their draft picks to be the worst. Drafting early in the 1st round vs late is a difference of 2-3X pool money. That's a huge difference not just in the first but throughout the draft. It's like complaining about somebody losing a race despite giving up a huge handicap. The Yankees have done much better in IFA because it used to be uncapped and now you can still trade for extra pool money.

Rule 5 draft deadline is this coming Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see who gets left unprotected and if the Yankees make any trades in the next few days.
