Re: Yankees 2019 Minor League News And Notes

Just an FYI for those on twitter, the Yankees Player Development has an account now.

    https://twitter.com/NYYPlayerDev

They've posted some highlights and tidbits on some guys over the last couple weeks since they set it up.

Hopefully they provide a lot of content over the season.

He's still 24 so I won't call it toast, but so far he has absolutely bombed in MLB and until he proves otherwise he will probably be considered an AAAA player.

Yea basically as any sort of legit prospect. He's still on the 40-man and in-line for the first infield callup and in the mix for the last bench spot, but I don't think he has much of a chance to do anything of real significance. I think we all hoped he'd be the infield version of Gardner, but he's a very poor man's version of that as Gardner came to the majors with elite OF defense, speed, and patience. Wade has those skills, but far from elite levels (except for maybe speed). He also strikes out way too much for someone with his offensive profile. Gardner strikes out too, but again Wade does it at a higher level and so far couldn't maintain his minor league strikeouts (which were high) in the majors. 2017 seems to be the real outlier for Wade's minor league career, but who knows he could get hot at the right time for once. I'm not holding my breath. He's a nice spare part though.

It’s NOT his UCL, though....not TJS.

A "stress reaction" is a processor to a stress fracture - rest should be the ticket...

Yep. Bone bruise. Probably started throwing full bore out of the gate.

The fact they’re only shutting him down three weeks is actually a positive sign as it would seemingly indicate a relatively mild injury.

He can't hit though. And he doesn't show a distinct platoon advantage in his minor league splits. His best bet is to get really good at a lot of positions. He's already solid at SS and 2B, get better at 3B and add CF and LF. That or develop some better contact skills to minimize those strikeouts.

Yea, ideally, LHPers are harder to get though. I think that's why the Yankees have targeted RHP because there's more high potential arms out there that are easier to come by without premium draft picks. But good starters are good starters and lefty specialists are becoming a thing of the past. The Yankees, in particular, seem to be all about getting elite pitchers for every inning and not worrying about matchups.

I agree..Quality arms work..If we can develop a lefty that's great but i agree they are going the way of breaking the game down inning to inning.

He hasn't hit on the MLB level yet but i'm not ready to say he can't hit. I agree his best chance is to be a super UTL.

That's fair, I'm at the point where I feel reasonably confident (at least 75%) that he won't hit at the majors. His 2017 minor league breakout was lifted by an abnormally high BABIP. And his hitter profile as a guy with speed that walks but has very limited power only works with a strikeout number closer to 15% something he hasn't really achieved in the minors and has struggled with even more at the ML level. Perhaps they can change something in his approach, but again I'm not confident.

I understand your feeling he won't hit at the MLB level. The numbers you have posted say he will struggle but he is a real hard worker and seems eager to adjust. Sometimes we know that's not enough though. Well see but i'm sure we are both pulling for him.

This IMO is one of the strongest groups of prospects i can recall. It's my belief, that young pitching is the key to a strong system capable of sustainable winning. With the LT now being in place, i believe this even more now. I catch a lot of Games at the AA and AAA level but only a few at A level but the people i talk to rave about our young arms. I had the chance to see a few progress late, in AA and was impressed. I can't wait to see how this goes because i'm exited about so many.
