Eh, he's definitely been the most dominant when he's been on, but I don't know if he's the clear frontrunner for #1 because of the wildness. You have the Tigers guys in the EL with him, Gore is doing some ridiculous stuff in A+ and is a lefty, Ian Anderson is looking great in AA, but yeah, if he were 5-6 inches taller we'd certainly be making the argument for him on this site.

He's objectively got a claim to it at this point based on his performance so far, even if it would get shouted down because of his stature. And he's younger than all of them - Anderson and Gore are both older than him, Mize is two years older, and McKay is 3.5 years older. I'm super curious to see how this all plays out - will his height really be a death knell? Because he looks absolutely tremendous at this point.

Well, I hope the team that gets him by the end of the year is the N.Y. Yankees. He should not be traded, and I am pretty confident he will not be.

Deivi did not make Pipeline's new top 100 that just came out.

I'd bet Deivi pitches in the majors in some capacity this season.

That's not a crazy bet - it's been floated by writers/Twitter for a few weeks now, though I can't recall any of the specific instances I came across it.

I know for sure KLaw wasn't one of them, though.

A scout recently told me Deivi Garcia is "probably a 4 or 5 starter" and "isn't the savior some are hyping him to be." This was the same scout who told me back in 2017 that Chance Adams, who was dominating AAA, would proabably be an reliever at the MLB level

There's no doubt Garcia, in a vacuum, has been impressive in Trenton. I mean he has 67 strikeouts in just 42 innings while holding opposing batters to a .188 average! Can't deny that success whatsoever. I just wonder if they end up selling high on him come July

Personally, I wouldn't pigeonhole someone as a certain type of player when he is just 20 years old. And there's no denying that Garcia has been impressive. It's something I'll be keeping an eye on as the year goes on

Perplexed and confused to why Pipeline didnít put Deivi in their top 100, and why scouts (such as Law) are not high on him. Whatís his velo?

These are old, Keith law ranked him the in the 60-70 top prospect this offseason and had this to say:

If Garcia were 6-foot-2, he probably would be talked about as a top-25 prospect; but he is more Marcus Stroman-sized and a bit slighter of build, so he has been dogged by questions about his durability, even as he dominated both levels of A-ball. Garcia has an easy low-90s fastball that sits 92 to 94 mph and sneaks up on hitters, while his bread and butter is his hammer curveball that's at least a 60-grade pitch now and could be more.

Scouts love his competitiveness, and even though he is small, he is aggressive and attacks hitters in the zone. When the Yankees promoted him to High-A in August, he no-hit Clearwater over seven innings in his first outing, striking out six of the first seven batters he faced. His changeup is his third pitch but should be at least average.

Garcia's delivery is simple, a little heavy on the arm with a moderately short stride, but he repeats it and has no problem throwing all his pitches for strikes. No one wants to assume a 5-foot-9 right-hander is a starter, but Garcia at least looks like he is built from the same mold as guys such as Stroman and Roy Oswalt; and through age 20, Garcia has had no trouble getting batters out.

He tweeted about him last night and referred to him as the Yankees top prospect. Heís definitely had a change of opinion.

Does anyone know if Alexander Vargas, Kevin Alcantara and Antonio Gomez will be playing in the Gulf Coast League this year? They haven't been showing up in the DSL boxscores.

I keep hearing Deivi Garcia could pop his head in for a breather in the bigs this year. Is that possible?

Yea heíd be a better reliever tomorrow than some of the guys we have in the pen. Heís at 59.2 innings now and went 74 last year. So probably has into the low 100s as absolute max. So it depends where heís at in the next month. For it to be worth theyíd have to save around 15 innings for the majors including potential postseason appearances, right? If they donít pull back soon it could be tough and perhaps not worth it if they can get Betances back and a starter that might make German a swing guy.
