    30. Yankees: Kody Hoese, 3B, Tulane

New York has scouted Baty heavily and while he won't last until No. 30, a power-hitting third baseman still could be the choice. Hoese is tied with Bleday for the NCAA Division I lead with 23 homers, while prepster Tyler Callihan (Providence HS, Jacksonville, Fla.) has some similarities to Baty.

NO THANKS ON THAT PICK!! One good year and A fringe defender at third screams 1st base prospect with unproven bat...Go pitching...A pick in a later rd would be fine but not our first pick..JMO

Right-hander Carter Stewart, the No. 8 pick in last year's draft who did not sign with the Atlanta Braves, is in agreement with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks on a six-year deal worth more than $7 million, sources tell ESPN. Stewart, 19, will start in the minor leagues in Japan.

    Re: 2019 MLB Draft..

Stewart's decision makes easy sense financially. Say he stayed in the United States and signed for $2 million. Best case, Stewart would have started with a team's short-season Class A affiliate. In 2020, he would top out at Double-A and make less than $10,000 for the season. And if Stewart is that good, and moving that quickly, his team likely would keep him at scant wages in the minor leagues for all of 2021, too, and promote him around this time in 2022 to ensure it controls him for 6¾ years before free agency. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, Stewart would make the major league minimum -- which, being generous and assuming the new collective bargaining agreement gives it a big bump, could be $750,000.

In a near-optimal scenario, Stewart would receive around $4 million for the next six years -- and would not reach free agency until after the 2027 season, when he will be 28. His deal with the Hawks would guarantee Stewart $3 million more and potentially allow him to hit free agency three years earlier.

    Re: 2019 MLB Draft..

BA has us drafting Tyler Callihan.. A raw HS power prospect who plays 3rd but again defense is a Question. No thanks.. Go Arms Espino and Walston are projected to be there. If i'm going to gamble on a HS kid i would rather it be with an arm with ELITE STUFF over a power bat who we all know will play first..JMO

    No. 30: New York Yankees
Matthew Lugo, SS, Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy
Lugo is an 18-year-old shortstop/second baseman from Puerto Rico whose glove is his calling card right now. He’ll be one of the youngest players available in the 2019 draft and is a commit to the University of Miami — and he happens to be the nephew of Yankees special advisor Carlos Beltrán. — Lindsey Adler (@lindseyadler)

If he won't last until 30, then why are they projecting him to go to the Yankees?

The not lasting until 30 comment was in regards to Brett Baty who they have going #20.

They're basically saying the Yankees like this one power hitting third baseman a lot (Baty) but since he won't be there at 30 we will project a different power hitting third baseman (Hoese).

With little to no arms coming in the IFA class I go arms in the draft!!

I hope being a Beltran relative plays no role in drafting someone projected lower.

When I was down in Tampa I had the chance to talk to a few of the amateur guys. They were telling me they are expecting this draft class to be on the younger side for the Yankees. Not sure if anything changes.

Interesting tidbit. Will have to look more closely at the high schoolers who should be around late in round 1.

    30. Yankees: Tyler Callihan, 3B, Providence HS, Jacksonville, Fla.

This is the absolute floor for Hoese and Baty, who have little chance of getting to New York, but Callihan has a lot of similarities to Baty. New York isn't necessarily looking for a prep infielder but gets mentioned with a lot of them: Baty, Callihan, Henderson, Lugo, Volpe and Freedom HS (Oakley, Calif.) shortstop Kyren Paris.

The Yankees might be happy if Misner were still available and there’d be interest in Baty. With them gone, Callihan is a solid pure bat the Yankees seem to covet."...Callihan and Misner have been connected for a while
