I like that they have this tournament with these powerhouses, but I wish it was later in the season after they've had at least a little time to gel and get their games down.

Undefeated Buffalo won 71-59 at Syracuse. ESPN2 said it was the first time Syracuse lost consecutive out of conference games at home since 1975.

Itís hard to capture the Duke phenom in words, so we tried stats instead. Here are the numbers behind one of the greatest freshman seasons in college basketball history.

    Re: 2018-2019 NCAA Basketball Thread

A lot of rare things happened today:

    1. Kansas State won at Baylor, they're the top two in the Big 12 standings, the Big 12 is first in the Conference NET and Conference RPI, and neither of them is ranked. The Big 12 has 3 ranked teams, but it doesn't include the top two in the Big 12 standings.

    2. Hofstra's (who I like) Justin-Wright Foreman scored 48, including 37 in the second half, of a 93-87 comeback win hosting William & Mary. William & Mary's Nathan Knight scored 39. There are 353 teams, and before today nobody has at least 16 field goals and at least 7 free throws in a game this season. Then two guys do it in one game.

    3. Northeastern won 72-60 hosting Elon, who didn't score in overtime. Elon played much better than they did when they lost 102-61 at Hofstra two days ago. Northeastern won by 11 in overtime at Elon, so Northeastern beat Elon by at least 11 in overtime twice in one season!

    4. Michigan beat Wisconsin 61-52. Wisconsin shot free throws 0-for-2. Both teams are ranked. The last time a ranked team lost and did not make a free throw, Wisconsin lost. The last time a ranked team won and did not make a free throw, Wisconsin lost to Virginia.

    5. Utah trailed by as much as 22 and was down 72-52 when UCLA committed a non-shooting foul with 10:08 left. Utah made a three with 10:03 left. Utah scored 41 in the last 10:03, including 12 in the last 28 seconds, and Parker Van Dyke made a three at the buzzer to win 93-92 and send UCLA's fans home (or to dorms) miserable. UCLA fell to 12-12 and 5-6 in the Pacific-12. Van Dyke didn't start. He scored 15, which were all from threes.

    6. North Carolina needed a three with 11 seconds left to force overtime hosting Miami, and North Carolina won 88-85. North Carolina was favored by 15.5.

    7. Marquette won 66-65 hosting Villanova, which was Villanova's first Big East loss.

    8. Florida State (who I like) came back from down 10 with 9 minutes left and 7 with 5 minutes left to win 80-75 in overtime hosting Louisville.

    9. Massachusetts won 54-51 hosting first place Davidson in the Atlantic 10. Massachusetts was coming off a 85-67 loss hosting Fordham, which was Fordham's first Atlantic 10 win. Davidson is now in first from the head-to-head tiebreaker over Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), who won 85-55 at St. Bonaventure.

    10. Toledo won 78-71 at Bowling Green. Like what happened in the Atlantic 10, Bowling Green is still in first with the head-to-head tiebreaker over Buffalo, who is ranked. Bowling Green won hosting Buffalo and plays their last regular season game at Buffalo.

    11. Bethune-Cookman won 84-76 hosting Norfolk State. It was Norfolk State's first Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) loss.

Four first place teams lost, two of which were undefeated in their conference. Lipscomb, Washington, Tennessee, Wofford, Sam Houston State, Prairie View A&M, and Gonzaga are the seven teams undefeated in their conference.

Oh man....Zion got hurt, not sure how long he'll be out. That sucks.

    https://www.npr.org/2019/02/21/69656...orget-for-nike

It was the most highly anticipated college basketball game of the season: Duke was facing archrival North Carolina, with the spectacular talents of Duke's freshman sensation Zion Williamson on display.

Former President Barack Obama was there. Tickets for the game were reselling for more than $3,000 — Super Bowl prices. Duke's exuberant student section, known as the Cameron Crazies, was extra hyped.

And then a mere 33 seconds into the game, on a routine play, Williamson dribbled near the foul line when his left leg buckled, his left blue-and-white Nike sneaker ripped apart at the seams and he tumbled to the floor, grabbing his right knee in pain.

Williamson limped off the court. Hearts sank everywhere. Obama visibly mouthed "his shoe broke." And in mere seconds, Nike was facing a marketing nightmare. The offending shoes were stashed away by a trainer. But the images of the young star being felled by his footwear couldn't be erased.
No word yet if Nike has fired the 8 year old who made the shoes.
