Nobody on twitter saw this DJ transaction happening on until it happened. Perhaps if yankees make other moves (move andujar to make room for machado) we won't know until that happens also. Things could still play out differently...moves can still be made...

Well, he sucked out loud outside of Coors, and only stunk while at Coors. He curiously won a batting title a couple years ago.

This was a bargain bin dive, except they paid him well.

This organization is such a joke. The Mets are having a better offseason. Let that marinate.

Stanton's cost really shouldn't have impacted that much. His AAV is 22 million. Not chump change but not huge either.

Which is stupid if they think like that. Instead they spent $11M on a utility infielder, $13M for a 7th inning guy and $6M for a 4th OF. That's $30M a year right there.

The issue isn't that Coors inflates the numbers, it's that Coors is so unique that it makes it impossible for players to adjust to playing on the road in-season. It has been well-documented.

    Check out this article:

So it's really a combination of things. Sure, the players' true talent might not be their Coors numbers, but in no way are they anything like their road numbers, either.

Britton isn't a terrible signing if you have the money to burn. Cashman has to know he doesn't, and needs to spend smarter.
New York has a $13 million option for 2021 and a $14 million option for 2022 and must decide within three days of the 2020 World series whether to exercise both. If the team option is declined, Britton has until the fifth day after the 2020 World Series to exercise a $13 million player option for 2021.
If they decline the 2 options after 2020 WS then he can opt out at that time which makes it a 2 year deal. But if he chooses to exercise his option then its a 3 year deal.

I do agree that if Cash knew in advance what budget he's realistically got to work with then he needs to be smarter with allocation. I just think it's ridiculous that $12M or $13M deals are an issue for the Yankees now.

Spending money on Gardner, Sabathia, and now LeMahieu are the type of signings that keep you from excelling if those signings keep you from spending it on elite talent.

I don't have a lot of confidence that anything big is going to happen, but it is worth pointing out how no one has any idea what is really going on, and how useless the reporting is

Ugh! So they pass on Manny and are not in on Harper. Hal and the Steinbrenner family get richer rather than upholding the Yankee tradition. That is the way I see it. Who cares if DJ or Lowrie is going to have more value when defensive metrics are included. I certainly will continue to rate the Yankee analytics department above the self-appointed internet analysts on this board who confidently claim they know more even though none could get a job with a MLB team.

BUT what I will not do is be content with Hal's business model. He is passing on the top two free agent opportunities in a long time and probably for a long time. Sure, the Yankees are going to be good enough to compete, to get to the playoffs, and with luck, even win the WS. I will follow and root for them. But they are not going to be the team they could have been had Hal spent his extraordinary revenues on Harper and Machado, or at least one. I for one am cutting my expenditures on tickets way, way back. I really do not want to give Hal any more of my money.

On the flip side, a Rockies beat writer expresses confusion upsetedness:

Nick Groke @nickgroke 7m7 minutes ago
    Daniel Murphy 2-$24M with Rox.
    DJ LeMahieu 2-$24M with Yanks.

Did the Rockies offer LeMahieu the same deal? Did he turn them down? Did he want to leave? Do the Rox think Murphy is better?
