It's the Rule V draft, so if you don't have space on your MLB roster for a fringe guy, then no, not really.

It's the minor league portion of the Rule 5, which is a completely different animal.

The Yankees coordinated with DET to select and trade Hill and to them. They actively wanted him in the system for whatever reason and to some degree .

Sorry to get back to you so late. The reason that I prefer Gardner to Harper is not that Harper isn't a great player or that Gardner has not lost some of his former skills but simply because of what Harper would cost. We have Stanton signed under contract until 2028 for an average of $30 million + per year. Stanton just turned 29. In 2028 he will be 39. Does anyone think that the last 3-4 years of his contract will not be an albatross around our neck?

Harper is 28 years old. He has Scott Boros as his agent. Boros is shrewd. He will ask and get a 10 year contract for him at a cost in the area of $400 million. Those two contracts and what we will have to pay Judge to keep him will severely hamper any moves we would want to make in the future. We won't be able to go after a stud starter if we sign Harper. Baseball is a business. Don't forget about it. If you think that the Yankees have an unlimited bankroll to engage in fantasy baseball you are mistaken. We need pitching not harper.

In that light, Gardner is a far superior option than Harper is.

Give it some serious thought and don't just engage in fantasys.

Money is not unlimited even if it is the Yankees. Think about the future and not the present.
