I thought he made the most sense initially because he could be more of a stopgap rather than a long term commitment like Keuchel. But now he’s a few weeks behind and no good bet to be ready before CC.

Gio wouldn’t cost them a draft pick and they can probably sign him for the spare change in Hal’s couch. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking a flier on him if they’re not willing to bite on Keuchel.

If Adam Jones is getting 3 mil, I think we can get Gio for same or less. Insurance

I'm going to do some prospect hugging here, but i so hope they fill the rotation spots from with in. If they sign someone my hope its a Milb deal only.

    Heyman

Yankees made an offer to Gio Gonzalez, but there’s a gap. Not a great deal of optimism at moment but there’s at least reason to think both sides might want to come together.

It makes sense. Durable league average LHP who made more than 30 starts in 8 of last 9 seasons. In the only season he didn't made it, he still made 27 starts.

The kids will still get their shots whether we add another pitcher or not. I’m not worried about that at all.

We do need another consistent arm out there with all of the question marks we have. I’d prefer Keuchel, but Gio fits the bill as well. He had a down year last year but before that he was the definition of consistent. 8 years in a row with 3+ WAR and we may be able to get him dirt cheap. It makes too much sense.

This is where I’m at as well. You can never have too much pitching.

That is a very good point. Same with Keuchel. Neither probably could pitch until May and at least for now Yankees expect Severino and CC to be back by then.

Odds are we'll need a starting pitcher by then anyway. The trade market isn't going to open in earnest until July. If we're worried about the depth before then we should add now while viable options are still available.

Plus the Yankees may be in a position where they're looking for a Gio type at the deadline anyway (i.e. a Lance Lynn type of addition). Why not add him now and save the prospects? I guess the answer to that is $$ (half season of ML salary) is more valuable than prospects these days.

I'll be surprise if Keuchel is signed by anyone other than Houston between now and June. If he makes it to June and once draft compensation is dropped then his market of teams gets extended beyond Houston.

No idea if they are doing it again this year. +rep for the Rudolph reference.

#Padres in continued discussions with #Indians on starting pitching, sources tell me and @dennistlin. Interest primarily in Bauer or Kluber, but asking price - while lower than before - remains beyond SD’s comfort level. Trade not close, unlikely to occur before Opening Day.

What can Yankees give to Indians that they accept trade? now asking price is lower than before? Florial is injured?

I'm of the belief that they can win the division with slugging and win in the postseason with pitching.
