This a really tough one. I went with Alien for the sheer horror of the monster from the moment it popped out of the dudes stomach.

But Silence of the Lambs is so creepy because it could be an actual real life monster.

What a bogus poll. No Godzilla, Rodan, Gamera, or Ghidora the Three-Headed Monster. No 50-foot woman, beast from 20,000 fathoms, or fiend without a face.

I voted for the Thing because I have never been more scared/shocked at a movie.

Is Jason Voorhies considered a monster? He would be my choice.

If Mike Myers from Halloween is, I don't see why Jason wouldn't be.

I go with Hannibal but I would like to put Anthony Perkins in Psycho as a candidate.

Not that it should win, but the Jaws shark should be one of the choices, given the effect it had on viewers for several summers after.

Fun factoid: It was shown so little because while they tested it in fresh water no one thought to test it salt water where it constantly kept breaking down.

    You're a beast from 20,000 fathoms.

Lecter, Leatherface, Norman Bates, John Doe (from Se7en) all seem like good candidates.

    Re: Best horror movie monster

I take the topic as is. A monster, so that disqualifies Michael Myers in my book. He's just a man in the original Halloween.

I chose Mr. Hyde. A mild mannered scientist Dr. Jekyll experiments a bit too much and turns himself into a maniac. Physically a monster and is primal in his actions.

Fredric March won an Academy Award for his role as him too.

Also Godzilla. I love kaiju films but the original Godzilla was truly a horror film as it was basically a physical representation of the horror and destruction the Japanese people dealt with when the atomic bombs were dropped on them just 9 years prior.

Jason Voorhees was basically just a guy until I think part 6 when Tommy Jarvis accidentally brought him back. I'd say from part 6 on he could be considered a monster.

Mr. Hyde is basically just a guy, too. The formula doesnít turn Dr. Jekyll into a different person, it just splits off his bad side.

I haven't seen them in a while but doesn't he get "killed" at the end of every one?
