The Boston Bruins are one win away from their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2013 after edging the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 5 of their Atlantic Division Finals series, 4-3.

After a scoreless first period, David Krejci scored the only goal of the second period at 1:39 as Boston led 1-0 after two periods.

Brad Marchand made it 2-0 at 4:51 of the third period.

Seth Jones got Columbus on the board at 10:33 before David Pastrnak gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead at 11:16.

But the Blue Jackets made it a 3-3 game in a 1:51 span.

Ryan Dzingel made it 3-2 at 12:07 and Dean Kukan equalized at 3-3 at 13:58.

However, Pastrnak scored his second of the game at 18:32 to break Columbus hearts.

Tuukka Rask made 33 saves as the Bruins can close out this series and book a date with the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday inside Nationwide Arena.

If the Blue Jackets win, Game 7 will be back in Boston's TD Garden on Wednesday.

In the Western Conference's Pacific Division Final, the San Jose Sharks are one win away from their second Western Conference Finals appearance in the last four years after holding off the Colorado Avalanche in Game 5, 2-1.

Kevin LaBanc thought he gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 7:04 of the first period, but it was waved off when Timo Meier was called for high sticking.

The Avs scored the first goal of the game off a broken play at 17:01 of the second period as Tyson Jost poked it in.

But the Sharks tied the game at 1-1 before the end of the second period as Tomas Hertl got the SAP Center crowd rocking after scoring a power play goal at 19:40 for his seventh of the playoffs.

Hertl scored the game-winner at 6:26 of the third period for his second of the game.

Philipp Grubauer had 37 saves in a losing effort for Colorado who need a win in Game 6 inside the Pepsi Center on Monday to force a Game 7 back in San Jose on Wednesday.

Re: 2018-19 NHL and AHL Hockey Season Thread

There will be at least one Game 7 in Round 2 of the 2019 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Western Conference's Central Division Final reaches the maximum on Tuesday as the St. Louis Blues force a winner-take-all game inside Enterprise Center after beating the Dallas Stars, 4-1 in Game 6.

Alex Pietrangelo helped the Blues silenced the American Airlines Center crowd 63 seconds into the game.

But Tyler Seguin's power play at 11:35 revved up the crowd as the Stars equalize to make it a 1-1 game after the first period.

It was all Blues from there however.

David Perron scored the only goal of the second period at 15:24 to give the Blues a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

The third St. Louis goal was a controversial one.

Colton Parayko fired a slapper towards the Dallas goal and it struck Ben Bishop in the collarbone sending the Stars goalie into a heap of pain.

However, play continued and Jaden Schwartz scored his eighth of the playoffs to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead at 7:37.
    https://sports.yahoo.com/ben-bishop-...223010711.html

Sammy Blais ended Bishop's Game 6 banged up with his tally at 8:10 to give the Blues a 4-1 lead.

Bishop gave up four goals on 20 shots.

Blues netminder Jordan Binnington had 22 saves in the win.

Game 7 from the Gateway City on Tuesday with the winner advancing to the Western Conference Finals.

The Eastern Conference Finals is set.

The Boston Bruins punched their ticket to the NHL Stanley Cup's Final Four for the first time since 2013 after taking the Atlantic Division Finals in six games over the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 3-0 shutout inside Nationwide Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Bruins grabbed a 1-0 lead after two periods as David Krejci scored the only goal of the second period at 12:13.

The Bruins put the series away with a 2-0 third period as Marcus Johansson struck at 8:58 and David Backes put the icing on the cake at 10:39.

The gamed Blue Jackets had chances but Tuukka Rask held down the fort with a 39-save shutout.

The Bruins will take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals that start later in the week.

The Canes and Bruins last met in the 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinals where the Canes outlasted the Bruins, 4-3 with Scott Walker scoring the winner in overtime in TD Garden.

The Bruins have a 3-1 edge over the Canes in playoff series including the first two when the Canes were the Hartford Whalers.

We're going to overtime in Denver.

The Colorado Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks are tied at 3-3 after regulation in Game 6.

After a scoreless first period, the Avs drew first blood as Tyson Jost lit the lamp at 4:05 of the second period to give Colorado a 1-0 lead.

But the Sharks tied the game at 1-1 at 14:36 as Marc-Edouard Vlasic equalized.

J.T. Compher gave the Avs a 2-1 lead at 18:44 before Brent Burns jumped into the play and made it a 2-2 game before the end of the second period.

Compher scored his second goal of the game four minutes into the third period as Colorado led 3-2.

But Team Teal forced overtime as Vlasic scored his second of the night at 17:32.

Shots are 24-21 in favor of the Avs after regulation.

Will the Sharks win the series or will the Avs force a winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday from SAP Center? Both teams are 2-0 in overtime in this postseason.

We're going back to Cali for a Game 7!

Colorado Avalanche captain forward Gabriel Landeskog poked in the overtime winner at 2:32 of the first overtime.

The Avs outlast the San Jose Sharks in overtime in Game 6, 4-3 to make it 3-3.

For the third time in the 2019 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, a Game 7 will be decided in overtime.

The St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars are tied at 1-1 after regulation inside Enterprise Center.

All the goals came in the first period.

The Blues drew first blood at 13:30 as Vince Dunn scored his first goal of the playoffs.

The Stars equalized at 15:55 as Mats Zuccarello scored his fourth of the playoffs.

Shots are 41-17 in favor of the Blues including a 31-4 edge in the second and third periods.

However, Stars goalie Ben Bishop has kept Dallas in the game with 40 saves.

The San Jose Sharks are the final team to reach the Last Four in the 2019 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

Peter DeBoer and Team Teal punched their ticket to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in the last four years and their fifth overall as they held off the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in Game 7.

San Jose wins the Best-of-Seven series, 4-3.

Sharks captain forward Joe Pavelski returned for the first time since Game 7 of the team's Round 1 series against the Vegas Golden Knights and set the tone early with the opening goal of the game, 5:57 into the contest.

Pavelski scored his second point of the night with an assist as Tomas Hertl buried his ninth goal of the playoffs at 11:35 to give the Sharks a 2-0 cushion.

The Avs refuse to quit though as they grabbed one back before the end of the first period as Mikko Rantanen struck for his sixth of the playoffs at 19:53 to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Colorado livewire forward Nathan MacKinnon had to leave the game momentarily with a banged up shoulder.

In the second period, Jared Bednar and the Avs thought they tied the game at 2-2 nearly eight minutes into the frame as Colin Wilson deposited the puck into the back of the net.

However, Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer challenged the call on the ice for an offside and the situation room in Toronto stated that one Gabriel Landeskog's skate was in the Sharks zone before the puck crossed the blue line.

The call was reversed to a no goal.

The Sharks took advantage as Joonas Donskoi scored his first goal of the postseason at 12:37 to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead after two periods.

But the Avs won't go away.

Tyson Jost made it a 3-2 game 51 seconds into the third for his third of the postseason.

However, Sharks goalie Martin Jones held down the fort with 27 saves.

The Avs have nothing to be ashamed of. They had a great run and will be a force in the West for a while.

As for the Sharks, they will take on the St. Louis Blues in a rematch of the 2016 Western Conference Finals and it will be the sixth time those two teams will meet in the playoffs.

The defending Calder Cup champion and the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies will take on the Carolina Hurricanes AHL farm club, the Charlotte Checkers.

Jeremy Bracco and the Marlies swept the Columbus Blue Jackets' AHL squad, the Cleveland Monsters in a four-game sweep.

Andrew Poturalski and the Checkers also had a four-game sweep as they sent the Washington Capitals' AHL team, the Hershey Bears, packing.

BB55's Three Studs and Three Duds - 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs: Conference Semifinals

    Three Studs
    1. Carolina Hurricanes
Why? The Canes don't make the playoffs often, but when they do, they usually go on deeper runs.

In their last four playoff appearances, the Canes made it to Round 3.

In this current playoff run, Rod Brind'Amour and his "bunch of jerks", coined by Don Cherry, used their team effort and conditioning to outlast Alex Ovechkin and the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals and swept another Cinderella contender in the New York Islanders to get to their first Conference Finals appearance since 2009.

They have a much bigger test though in the Boston Bruins and will miss Trevor van Riemsdyk for the rest of the postseason.

    2. St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks
Why? Those two teams will meet each other in the Western Conference Finals for the second time in the last four years.

Both teams are very similar: big, can skate well, solid defensive cores, solid special teams. The X-Factor is Jordan Binnington where he has shown tremendous talent and poise for a first-year full-time starting goalie and he has to come up big against his opposite number in Martin Jones who has risen his game since his nightmarish starts for the Sharks against the Vegas Golden Knights in Games 2-4.

It's also a chance for one of them to reach the Stanley Cup Final a la 2016 and attempt to win their first ever Stanley Cup title.

    3. Boston Bruins
Why? Been there, done that as the Boston Bruins book their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2013. This might be the last time to win another Stanley Cup for veterans who were part of their 2011 triumph and their 2013 runners-up finish including Zdeno Chara.

    Three Duds
    1. New York Islanders
Why? Should've stayed at Nassau, New York Islanders.

The first team since the 1993 Buffalo Sabres to win a first-round sweep only to be swept in Round 2.

Looks like moving the Isles back to Brooklyn's Barclays Center was bad luck for a team who overachieved this season.

    2. Colorado Avalanche
Why? The Avs don't deserve to be in my duds list. They had a tremendously better season and should be beasts in the West for a while. Joe Sakic has a core led by Nathan MacKinnon that will thrive for years to come. Problem is, they need to add more scoring depth outside of MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen and it showed in this series against the Sharks.

    3. Columbus Blue Jackets
Why? The Blue Jackets don't deserve to be on the duds list either. They won a playoff series for the first time ever in shocking fashion against the 128-point Presidents' Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning and gave the Bruins all they can handle in the Atlantic Division Final.

However, the breaks didn't go their way in their one-goal losses in Games 1 and 5 in Boston.

Still nothing to be ashamed of for the Blue Jackets in 2018-19.

Playing at Barclays in no way was responsible for the Isles losing that series. It was a tough series and Canes converted every Isles mistake into a goal. It all snowballed when Clutterbuck back passed in the acting zone in OT (Always a no no) instead of shooting and the turnover led to the Canes winning that game. Isles lost both games at Carolina.
