The team captain those three seasons was a defenseman you may remember from elsewhere. Al Arbour.

And their coach was Scotty Bowman. Like I said they were never going to win those finals but it is surprising that they were swept all three times.

Arbour has the distinction of playing for four consecutive Stanley Cup winners but never for the Canadiens or Islanders. Not sure if anyone else has ever done that. He appeared for the 1961 Blackhawks and 1962-64 Maple Leafs. (Although he only appeared in a smattering of games for the 1963 and 1964 Leafs, and did not appear in the playoffs in 1963 and only in one playoff game in 1964.)

He also played 36 games for the 1953-54 Red Wings, so he played for 3 different Stanley Cup-winning franchises during the Original Six era but never for Montreal. Again I wonder if anyone else did that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, we have a series in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals!

The Boston Bruins took Game 1, 4-2, but the St. Louis Blues outlasted the Bruins in overtime in Game 2, 3-2 to even the series at 1-1 and steal home ice heading into the Enterprise Center on Saturday.

In Game 1 on Memorial Day Monday from Boston's TD Garden, the Boston Bruins had to rally to double up the St. Louis Blues, 4-2.

The Blues struck first however as Brayden Schenn scored the only goal of the first period at 7:23 to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead.

Vladimir Tarasenko made it 2-0 one minute into the second period.

However, the Bruins snowballed the Blues the rest of Game 1.

Connor Clifton cut the deficit to one at 2:16 and Charlie McAvoy pulled Boston level at Desmond 2-2 on the power play at 12:41.

Sean Kuraly gave the Bruins their first lead at 5:21 of the third period before Brad Marchand sealed Game 1 with an empty netter at 18:11.

Jordan Binnington had 34 saves in a losing effort for the Blues as they lost their 13th straight Stanley Cup Finals game.

But Craig Berube's men helped St. Louis win their first ever Stanley Cup Finals game in Game 2, stealing home ice in a 3-2 victory in overtime.

All the goals in regulation came in the first frame.

Boston picked up where they left off on the power play as Charlie Coyle scored his second man-advantage goal of the series 4:44 into the game as the B's led 1-0.

Robert Bortuzzo replied back for the Blues as he tied the game at 1-1 at 9:37.

The B's take the lead once again at 10:17 from Joakim Nordstrom.

Tarasenko capped off a crazy first period with his 10th of the playoffs at 14:55 to tie the game at 2-2.

With no goals scored in the second and third periods, Game 2 went into overtime.

This time, it was Tuukka Rask who had the most saves with 34.

However, Carl Gunnarsson made history for the Blues as he scored the overtime winner at 3:51 of the first overtime period to give the Blues their first ever Stanley Cup Finals win and even the series at 1-1 heading into the Gateway City for Game 3 on Saturday.

Binnington is now 6-2 in this postseason following a loss.

Meanwhile in other hockey news, Canada has to wait another year to capture their 27th IIHF World Championship Gold Medal as Finland defeated the mighty Canadians, 3-1 to capture their third IIHF World Championship title.

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore gave Canada a 1-0 lead at 10:02 of the first period.

However, it was all Finland after that.

Jokerit forward and former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick Marko Anttila made it 1-1 on the power play at 2:35 of the second period and scored his second of the game at 2:35 of the third period to give Finland a 2-1 lead.

SCL Tigers and former New Jersey Devil Harri Pesonen made it 3-1 at 15:54 and Chicago Blackhawks prospect goalie Kevin Lankinen had 43 saves in the win.

Russia took home bronze after edging the Czech Republic 3-2 in a shootout after a 2-2 tie in regulation and overtime.

Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all four Czech shootout attempts while Ilya Kovalchuk and Nikita Gusev converted their chances for the Russians.

In the American Hockey League, the 2019 Calder Cup Finals are set.

Unfortunately for ruthianblast and the Toronto Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, there will be a new Calder Cup champion.

The defending Calder Cup titleholders were bounced out in the Eastern Conference Finals by the MacGregor Kilpatrick trophy winners and Carolina Hurricanes' AHL squad Charlotte Checkers in six games.

The Checkers will take on the Vegas Golden Knights' AHL side and Western Conference champion Chicago Wolves who are gunning for their third Calder Cup title and their first since 2008.

Schedule: series start June 1 with a possible Game 7 on June 14.

Always find it funny that in hockey the minor league playoffs could still be going on after the Stanley Cup playoffs have ended.

It's now a Best-of-Three in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals!

The Boston Bruins destroyed the St. Louis Blues in Game 3, 7-2 inside Enterprise Center.

The B's scored four power-play goals in Game 3 with Patrice Bergeron leading the way with three points (one goal, two assists) and Tuukka Rask had 27 saves.

St. Louis starting goalie Jordan Binnington was pulled after allowing five goals on 19 shots.

However, Binnington recorded his seventh win after a loss this postseason as the Blues doubled up the Bruins 4-2 in Game 4.

It was a see-saw affair in the first two periods as Ryan O'Reilly made the Enterprise Center erupted with a goal 43 seconds in.

Charlie Coyle tied the game at 1-1 at 13:14 before Vladimir Tarasenko gave the Blues a 2-1 lead at 15:30.

Brandon Carlo scored the only goal of the second period with a shorthanded tally at 14:19.

It was all Blues in the third period.

O'Reilly scored his second of the game at 10:38 and Brayden Schenn sealed the win with an empty netter at 18:31.

Rask had 34 saves in a losing effort for Boston.

Game 5 in Boston's TD Garden on Thursday.

Meanwhile in the 2019 AHL Calder Cup Finals, the Chicago Wolves and the Charlotte Checkers are tied at 1-1 heading into Game 3 in the Windy City.

The Wolves grabbed Game 1 in overtime, 4-3 inside Bojangles' Coliseum. Stefan Matteau scored twice including the winner at 5:30 of the first overtime period and Oscar Dansk had 35 saves.

The Checkers drew level at 1-1 after a 5-3 victory in Game 2 as Dustin Tokarski grabbed the win with 20 saves.

Games 3-5 will be in AllState Arena with a back-to-back Games 3 and 4 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Re: 2018-19 NHL and AHL Hockey Season Thread

In their first three Stanley Cup Finals appearances between 1968 and 1970, the St. Louis Blues had no Stanley Cup Finals wins.

Craig Berube and the Blues are one win away from their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history after grabbing a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 5 inside TD Garden.

After a scoreless first period, Ryan O'Reilly scored the first goal of Game 5 and the only goal of the second period 55 seconds in to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead after two.

The Blues doubled their lead at 10:36 when David Perron struck, but it wasn't without controversy.

The referees missed a penalty when Tyler Bozak legwhipped Noel Acciari from behind that led to the goal.

Cam Neely was livid when he threw a water bottle and the Bruins fans threw stuff onto the ice.
    https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1782780

Jake DeBrusk got the Bruins fans on their feet after his goal cut the deficit to 2-1 at 13:32.

However, Blues goalie Jordan Binnington held down the fort with 38 saves.

The Blues can close it out on Sunday from Enterprise Center. If the Bruins win, a winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday in Boston.

    It did.

For the first time since 2011, a Stanley Cup title will be awarded in a Game 7 after the Boston Bruins routed the St. Louis Blues in Game 6, 5-1.

Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak each had a goal and assist as the winner-take-all affair will take place in Boston's TD Garden on Wednesday.

It will be the Bruins' 28th career Stanley Cup Playoffs Game Seven and will attempt to win their 16th Game Seven. The B's were the last team to win a Stanley Cup title in a Game 7 back in 2011 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Will Jordan Binnington's winning magic following a loss continue as the Blues' goalie is 7-2 this postseason in this scenario?

There will be a winner on Wednesday June 12 in Boston.

Ryan O'Reilly was named Conn Smythe trophy winner in these playoffs.

O'Reilly had 25 points this postseason.

Jordan Binnington deserves some props as well. Binnington was 8-2 in this playoffs following a loss.

The last two Stanley Cup winners, Blues and the Washington Capitals, exorcised their playoffs demons.

St. Louis joins New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Detroit and Philadelphia to complete the career Big Four set.
