Please Make Ryan Ruocco Go Away

Please. Please. Please spare us from him. I'm begging.

    I can't take it.

How can the greatest sports franchise in the history of Earth have this man calling games?

    It's depressing.

Singleton is going to retire and this guy is gonna step in and announce for the 60+ games that Kay takes off.

We need to voice our opinions.

Would you guys rather have Bob Lorenz?

He's definitely more of a basketball announcer than anything, but with little more seasoning, he'll be fine.

The John's are right. He has to go.

BomberBrian you are one of my very favorite forumers around here (and I'm 100% being sincere), but this post severely disappoints me.

(not that Kay is good, mind you)

Re: Please Make Ryan Ruocco Go Away

nah leave Ruocco alone. He needs more games honestly because he's just too rusty calling such few Yankee games.

He seems to have the best home run calls.

Anyways, he's a Fordham guy, so he can't be that awful in the future. Also, we need to find a new Ken Singleton, either someone in the YES team or from within the Yanks alumni.

Singleton wasn't from within the Yanks' alumni.

Im not, as negativity and hatred are common emotions around here.

he wasn't, you're right. He grew up in Mount Vernon, which explains the NY connection though.

I was just thinking of finding someone who can be a color analyst and play-by-play guy, hence the "singleton" role.

This is so true it aint even funny.
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

Yet, no one can tell us exactly what's wrong with Ruocco?

I did like Ruocos call of Aaron Judges monster shot in Seattle last season, That ball is absolutely clobbered!!! Good gosh ... wheres that going to land? Oh my ... what a bomb!

I think Ruoco is maybe a bit high pitched tho ... particularly compared to Ken Singleton, whose voice is like a long glass of smoooooooth bourbon.

Flaherty analysis can slant towards the negative and his voice is kind of mundane.

A little bit, but one thing I like about Ruocco is he has a better grasp of metrics than Kay. Even though both of them grew up Yankee fans, Ruocco's fandom comes through more. Unlike Kay, who spent many years on the radio calling Yankee games, Ruocco could use more baseball games under his belt to improve his baseball announcing. He's really good at basketball, but that's because he's called a lot more basketball games than baseball.

    Same.

But I suppose I'm not the best one to be commenting because I still don't understand how anyone likes Ken Singleton.

Metrics are good for player evaluation, not so much for baseball broadcasting.

Ruocco has greTly exaggerated affect, like he knows hes supposed to sound excited about things. He uses that exaggerated affect try try to sound like he# not boring, but he is. His broadcasting has no natural flow, as Singleton's does. He slips way too easily into discussions of nonsense, to which Cone can be susceptible (though theyre nowhere near as bad as Kay and O'Neill on that score). He cant stop talking about Gary Sanchez getting to 10 muti-HR games faster than anyone else, even though its not a particularly interesting or important stat.
