I like Ruocco, he's a baseball nerd, just like Cone, and myself. I also liked the "Good-bye-SIR" call he had in the past, it seems he is going a little more off the cuff with the HR calls now. Kay is somewhere between play by play and analysis a lot of the time. And that's fine, he's been doing this for long enough to get in on the analysis as well. You can hear Ruocco really respecting the analysts and not stepping on them at all, because he knows that's what his role should be right now. I like R2C2, give that a shot, Ruocco was also great when he was on ESPN Radio with TMKS and other shows. I hope he is the Kenny replacement next year. Still some seasoning needed, but from other things he's done, you can expect him to take leaps forward pretty quickly.

Well I hope you're right and he improves, but you can't change the pitch of your voice unfortunately (at least I don't believe you can).

He certainly isn't Vin Scully or anything but I don't mind him that much as a second stringer. Of course, the problem is he'd be replacing Singleton and I consider Kenny an underused first-stringer and Kay an overused second-stringer.

Really? My issue with him has always been that he's one of those ex-jocks trying to stay loyal to "the fraternity" and won't be critical of his lodge brothers.

I always cite a game against the Angels several years ago, there was a runner on third and the pitcher bounced a pitch, which got away from the catcher, the catcher chased it down and fired home and the runner just got in safely. Flaherty's entire reaction to the play was to praise: a) the catcher for getting to the ball in time to make a play; b) the pitcher for covering home quickly; c) the runner for evading the tag.

I mean come on, it was a run scored on a wild pitch. SOMEBODY must have screwed up.

Even more than loyal to the lodge, seeing it only through your own eyes. It felt like my whole TV baseball experience growing up was McCarver telling me ďRemember, you steal bases off the pitcher, not the catcher.Ē

Another example of two people listening to the same person and coming away with different evaluations of that person. I thought Flaherty has been rather critical of certain Yankee players. He's been very critical of Sanchez's defense.

Before reading this thread, to a person I've talked to this is the majority - scratch that - exclusive position.

Not mine though. I don't particularly like the way he calls a game. Also, he's been paired up with Cone and kind of nerfs the fun out of him IMHO. The "homework assignments" bit is really dumb.

I honestly don't mind Kay, when he's paired up with Cone especially. Like most, will miss Singleton when he's gone, could live with less O'Neill in the booth and please kick Flaherty to the curb. I cringe every time I hear "he's proud of his fastball." MOAR CONE!

But I've got the minority opinion it seems both for TV crew and radio crew. Think I might be the last person on earth that can tolerate Sterling. Although Waldman is nails on a chalkboard to me.

One thing I will say negatively about Ruocco. He does talk too much when broadcasting a game. He doesn't allow the flow of the game action to breath. Perhaps, I wish every announcer was like Vince Scully.

Iím not a fan. Both him and Flaherty seem to have a forced delivery/false excitement to their voices. Sort of like what it would sound like if Eeyore was calling the game.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Is it more challenging now to hire former ball players to announce since the good ones made so much money during their career? If Rizzuto, Bill White, etc. made free agency money would they have announced after retirement?

I'm here as well. More Cone too. Losing Singleton sucks. Everyone else is terrible, especially Flaherty who is a hateful horrible backup catcher.

I'm in the minority, but, I'm okay with all the Yankee YES and WFAN announcers and on-air personalities, including Kay, Sterling, Suzyn and Ruocco. Going to miss Singleton.

The only Yankee announcer that I don't like is their PA announcer, Paul Olden. After decades of being treated by a legend, the Yanks could have done a hell of a lot better than hiring this stiff. Half the time you can barely hear him or make out what he's saying. It's as if the game is interrupting his nap. Dude annoys me.

Maybe YES could hire Austin Romine, after the Yankees finally come to their senses and realize he is a terrible backup catcher?

Re: Please Make Ryan Ruocco Go Away

Ruocco is the worst HOME announcer currently on TV. I emphasize HOME because most of the time it is not discernible for whom he works. He gets just as thrilled by a Yankee opponent home run or big hit as he does when our team does something good. It's possible his non-biased announcing comes from the fact that he is not paying attention to the game but rather making boring conversation about old TV shows or blathering on and on about some analytical intricacy with Cone.
I also think his voice has a little lisp and he sounds like a guy who has a speech impediment that is on the road to recovery. He would be perfect for a high school radio sports announcer.

Count me as not a Ruocco fan.

I think he has potential to be a good announcer. He does his homework prior to games and just needs experience. Give him a chance!!

I think its because he feels like every second needs to be filled in with his voice. He talks waaaaay too much and mostnof what he says is useless. Like when Cone chimes in. We get it, Cone, you used to play some ball.

Today he broke the record of saying "oppo" in one game by saying that word 435 times.

    The previous record was 1.

She’s okay with post game interviews, but holy Christmas, keep Meredith Marakovits out of the booth. She keeps babbling on and on without taking a breath. I get out of breath just listening to her.
